Crooked Teeth?

my girls just got their first two teeth, both on the bottom, and they are totally crooked! is this a weird thing, or pretty normal? they aren't sideways or anything, just in a v-shape. i don't really know anyone else with teething babies, so i'm not sure who to ask. thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

thanks so much for all your great answers! i'm really starting to like their crooked grins, they are pretty cute! my husband and i both had to have braces, but mine were gappy and his were crowded, so maybe my girls will be a perfect mix, and straight! either way, i'm not too worried, we'll just have to make sure we have good dental insurance!

HI! I have an 11 month old with 8 teeth...his upper teeth were just as you explained...but since the other teeth have started to come in they are straightening out a little. I have a lot of friends with kids around the same age and it seems to be pretty common.

my 3 yr odl son (and my) teeth are straight. but my 2 year old daughters front teeth are crooked like that. .i asked her pediatric dentist about it and they told me that crooked baby teeth aren't necessarily a sign of crooked permament teeth..
so i hope:-) as you do..
my sister had to have braces. and so did my husband.
i hope my kids don't have to. or yours

While this is not normal it isn't a terrible thing, my son also has the problem. It tends to be genitic, so if you or your husband have or had a crowding problem,it's very likely that your children will. I have a v-shaped crowding problem on my bottom front teeth, i can tell you it's never hurt me, just made me smile differently to hide it.

A dentist that I spoke with about this problem said that the best you can do about it is to start saving to braces now cause that's what it's going to take to fix the problem.

Hope this helps and makes you feel a little better.

My mom worked in a dental office when I was a kid, and she's seen a lot of kids, since it was a pediatric dental office. Baby teeth often come in crooked, as well as adult teeth. I had a few crooked adult teeth come in, but they straighted out once the rest of them fell out. I wouldn't worry about it, but I would make sure that if their teeth are still crooked once they have all come in that you wait until they have lost most of their baby teeth to start them on braces, otherwise their adult teeth may come in crooked and you will have to do the whole process over again. That is one way some orthodonitists scam patients is to start braces too early. But right now, rest assured that your daughters are perfectly normal!

My best friends husband is a dentist and when I had a concern about my 14 months old teeth he said not to worry that is was the permanent teeth that matter. I has perfectly straight teeth as an infant/toddler, but when my adult teeth came in they formed the "V" shape on bottom. I never had it fixed and it hasn't been a problem. But braces are an easy fix.

Hello from near Salmon, ID!
When my little girl (now 11 months) got her bottom teeth in they were in the same V shape. I was concerned at first, but as they got bigger they seemed to straighten out a little. They are still a tad bit crooked, but not bad at all. I was really concerened about it at first but then I realized that I really couldn't do anything about it and worrying about it didn't help either! Thank goodness they are just baby teeth and hopefully her adult teeth will come in straighter, but for now, I just focus on other things! Hope this helps some! I am sure your girls are so beautiful, even if their teeth may be a little crooked!!

My son's teeth were very crooked when they first came in. As the others came in they straightened out. I would watch them very carefully. Remember baby teeth only last until the child is five or so. Keep them clean. Baby rot can happen unless you care for them right away.

Look at it this way: There's nothing to push against yet. Most likely when the other teeth come in, they'll shove the teeth in their proper spot. My little guy's teeth are still really spaced out. I think it's cute, like that kid on rugrats, but then I'm biased...
