Hi, fellow moms! The past two mornings I've gone in to my daughter's room to hoist her from her crib, she's had tiny paint specks/chips all over her face and mouth! Her first two little bottom teeth made their appearance last week, and (as you all know) she's been chewing everything. The problem I'm having is finding a plastic teething cover for the edge of the crib, as her crib is a convertible, and the rail is much wider than the average rail. I tried Baby Depot today to no avail. I searched online this evening, but the only one I could find had terrible reviews. Any help any of you could provide would be fabulous. Thanks so much!
My son did the same thing. We put a gummy crib rail on his crib. Here's a link but you can find it online for less.

I used the Gummi Rail on my son's crib and it worked great...until he figured out how to take it off!
clear packing tape is what i used... worked for us...

You can hang toys from the little velcro loops, it velcros on and off very easily (great for when we travel, we can take it with us) and it's machine washable!

I had a friend who ended up putting terrycloth towels around the bars. She used the no sew velcro along the edge to attach the towel to the bar.
Babies R Us carries a Gummi Teething rail, which fits the wider crib style. It not only protects the rails, but gives the baby a softer surface to chew on.
I am a firm believer in DIY... If you can't find something at the store that fits the unusual size of the rail then make something. Take a soft blanket and sew it right around the rail. You are going to have to sew it because if you tie it then she could work it loose. Just wrap the blanket around the rail and sew it together between the rails. Good luck.

We had the same problem! Our crib is a convertible as well, and the bars were too big for any of the teething protectors. We ended up wrapping the rails with towels, but I have heard you could do something a little prettier by wrapping the railings in yarns or pretty fabric swatches. Our son woke up one day, and had chewed all of the rails! It just seemed to happen over night. We are now trying to find a place to refinish them since it is a convertible bed, and we plan to use it for quite awhile. Good Luck!
I had the same problem and contacted the maker of her crib. These were 2 websites they had. we use the prince lion heart one and it has worked great. Its just velcore so it won't mess up your crib and we got it very fast. Good luck.

We also have the gummi rail guard from Baby's R Us... (you can get them online through Baby's R Us, Amazon and I think One Step Ahead too)
We have a crib with the fatter rail so those snap on ones wouldn't work, so we got the gummi rail... seemed kind of expensive at the time... but it was well worth the money for us.
One thing that we used when the same thing happened with my daughter is we took a clean towel (we had cloth diapers that we used as burp rags that hadn't been used) and saftey pinned (where she couldn't get to the pins) around the spot that she kept biting. At least with my daughter she was always biting in the same spot. It worked for us and eventually she just quit trying.
I know this is an old post but I just had to address this. I sure hope MS from Bloomington's answer was a joke. No one should put clear packing tape on their child's crib. If the baby were to get some off they could choke very easily. Not to mention I wouldn't want my baby chewing on some toxic adhesive glue.
Have you concidered buying the clear tubing from a hardware store? The tubing accepted for human contact could be split down the length and opened to cover the rail top. It is good for cords in the chewing zone of pets, too....

Babies R Us has a gummi rail. It worked for us for a few weeks. Then my daughter figured out how to take it off. Don't spend your money on it. Maybe you could check with the manufacturer to see if they sell something for your crib. Good luck.
I was happy to find this and get the advice alos. my twins are doing the same thing. I also have a convertible crib and the hard plastic crin rail guards don't fit really snug. my girls pop them right off and throw them on the floor. I liked the inexpensive cloth suggestions from people. I've also seen cloth crib rails sold online. I just did a search for "crib rail teething guards". I found a bunch on amazon.com which allowed me to go thru and see not only different kinds, but also how people rated them.
Perhaps try finding an alternative cover. Maybe look for the plastic cover that kind of sits and wraps around the shower curtain rod. You can easily cut it down to side and superglue it on after you see if it will work or not. It's a pretty inexpensive way to try to baby proof the crib. You might be able to find other options along those lines in a hardware store in the plumbing and bathroom area.
