Creative Birthday Idea for Husband

Hi ladies, I'm in need of some ideas for my husbands birhday which is this Thursday, April 12. I wanted to do something unexpected (funny/sweet/nice, anything creative) at work for him, but not sure what. My husband is turning 39, so I'm going to do a party (go all out) for the big one 40th next year, but this year I want to do something fun. A little about him, he plays a lot of golf, he did a golf thing last year for his b-day, he's funny and makes us laugh all the time, so some type of joke thing is great. He's a supervisor for an insurance carrier, not a stuffy guy. Very athletic and outgoing...great guy! But, I've run out of creative ideas for his birthday. ANY suggestions would be much appreciated, looking forward to hearing back from those creative wives:)

What can I do next?

My sister does a "white trash" party every year for fun. They put a car on their front lawn on cinder blocks. Hang a clothesline. Dress up in mumu's, blacken teeth, etc. They serve roadkill (ground meat), salad with cool whip or marshmellows in them and crackers with cheez whiz. You can google white trash part for more ideas. Have fun!

How about going out to a comedy club to see a show? Or maybe find an improv club that is having an open mike night and encourage him to take the stage (or even sign him up ahead of time). Let him show off his funny side. Fill the audience with his friends and family.

OMGosh! After reading some of these other ideas, mine sounds positively tame! :) I've done a few fun parties for my hubby and his twin brother and his dad (whose birthday is 4 days after the twins). One year I took them to a jet fighter simulation place and surprised them with a party that included a bunch of their friends. We all got to "fly" jet fighters and have a dogfight (in Irvine.) I had all sorts of "flight" themed things going on and everyone got dog tags as a party favor. This past year I took them to the Pirate Adventure in Buena Park (cheesy, but fun cause my hubby loves all things pirate), and everyone got a treasure chest filled with pirate toys, candy and tattoos as a favor. On the flip side, my hubby has set up a couple of fun parties for me, one year we went dancing at the Derby with some friends and one year he surprised me with a party at Chucky Cheese! (I had never been there before, and you'd be surprised at how much fun a group of adults with no kids around can have at one of those places. :)

Hi L.,
My suggestion would be to do a little scavenger hunt. You could have something delivered to him at work. In that delivery would be a note with a hint to where the next clue would be. You could make the next place a co-worker. Once he figures out the clue, he goes and finds that co-worker who has the next clue for him and so on, until he finds you somewhere. You could either have a gift for him, or be at a restaurant. Anyway, it is just a suggestion. I was thinking about doing this for our anniversary. If you like it and have questions on how to do it, just write me back. Have fun!

You could bring a "putting green" to the office and have a putting playoff for your husband and his co-workers. Make it a lunch thing with sandwiches for everyone and a cake. If it's a fun office environment, that could go over well.

Otherwise, maybe you could find a character that could come to the office and do some sort of singing telegram. It's so corny, but it could be cute if you find the right character. Or a clown or magician to make co-workers and him balloon characters - including a balloon hat for him...

Aside from work gatherings, something simple like a bowling night could also be fun, low key, but active and a good time for everyone. Depending on weather and your location, you could do frisbee golf.

Hope you have a great time! Happy Birthday!

A singing telegram is always fun and a little embarrasing, especially at his work.

On the note below for poker, they have red and black sprinkles in the shape of card suits. Check your local cake decorating stores.

Also there are companies that do the Vegas theme for parties. They have all the rental gear, set it up, cool stuff like roulette.

Maybe hire a masseur to come to the office.

I really like the scavenger hunt idea.

Hi L.,

I always do something creative for my husband, which is difficult because he's so nosey! I got him one year by arranging with one of the secretary's at his office, to let me in to the building after hours. I made up an excuse at home so he wouldn't wonder where in the world I was. I went all out and totally decorated his office. Signs, balloons, confetti, etc. I also made a huge basket of funny things, like hokey golf stuff, and candy, and I even found a pair of little kids handcuffs. That was the best one because all his coworkers were in the room when he opened them and they teased him for months (he's very conservative). So I hope this helps.

One year I filled his car with balloons - not as easy as it sounds!

Plus, I knew he'd expect something big for his 40th so on his 39th I threw him a suprise party. He had no idea, and didn't expect anything. That was fun!

Good luck

You'll probably get better ideas than this, but I remember one year I helped my mom, we stuffed, (literally, to the roof) of my step-dad's car with balloons!! Many of them had to float away when he got in so he could fit in to drive it home!! It was a fun surprise for him to find when he got out of work!!

My husband's birthday is in August and I was thinking of having a luau party. Most people own some type of Hawaiian attire or they can simply wear some nice inexpensive leis from Party city. You can have it catered from a Hawaiian restaurant and order the cake from King's Hawaiian. I have another idea. I have a candle party next weekend and the theme is a luau party. I'm taking my candle display and adding some sand and seashells to certain candle accesories. (It's just a thought).
Good Luck and have fun!
