A few days ago, I noticed while going pee that I smelled maple syrup. Weird, I know...So, I thought maybe one of the kids wiped syrup on the sink or something while washing their hands, and did a thorough mid-week clean of the bathroom. The next day, I still noticed the smell. I even started noticing it at work, so I know it must be me, but my question is, "Is this normal?" Up to this point, I could definately smell my hormones when I would go, but what would cause it to smell like maple syrup when I've only had syrup once since getting pregnant? Any ideas? Also, I'm 24 weeks pregnant, if that helps any.

What can I do next?

Lots of vitamins smell like that. I had to take fenugreek when I was breastfeeding and it made me smell like maple syrup. And I HATE the smell of maple syrup, lol.

Please call your OB's office and let them know this fact. It could be nothing or a the sign of an underlying health issue.

A higher concentration of ketones may cause sweet smelling breath and/or urine. You're probably due for your GD screeing soon, so I would maybe mention it to your OB.

I am a type 2 diabetic. Diabetes runs in my family and when I was prego I didn't have it, but had the syup smell. I was diagnosed with GB. Now that I have full blown Diabetes I have that same smell when my sugars are high. Please contact your OB and talk to the nurse and tell her of your concern with the smell. They should have you come in shortly to have your screening. I am hoping it is nothing for you. God Bless and congrats on your new baby to come!

Have you had your GD screening? It could be a sign of that. There is actually a disease called Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) so you're not crazy about the smell, that's definitely a legit thing (don't worry about the disease as it's diagnosed in infancy so you would know if you had it). If your next appointment isn't for a while, I would call your OB and ask about it.

No, this is not normal. It's actually a sign of a metabolic disorder. Please call your OB and report.

It could be you or it could be your fetus....

I echo what others have said--contact your OB's office and let them know. If you haven't had your glucose screening yet, they may ask you to take it, as it can be a sign of gestational diabetes. Best of luck to you!

Are you taking fenugreek? I took that to help with my milk supply and I always reeked of syrup.
