Crawling = Boo Boo's

C. - If only we could prevent them from getting boo, boo's... I have an 11 month old who has evolved from crawling to standing to "cruising" and it seems like he's always falling or bumping his little head on things. My husband and I joke all the time about how we need to keep a football helmet on our little man:) Initially, my husband also loooked at me like we needed to do something to keep our boy from falling and such, but he eventually realized that we can't (and shouldn't) hord over our son. He needs his independence to explore and learn. I'm sure you are a great mommy and your husband will eventually get it. I baby-proofed some, put pillows and blankets on things (like the fireplace bricks) and I try to teach him some things are off limits (like cords). Good luck!!

The only way to prevent it is to follow him around and try to catch him every time you think he might fall. However, this isn't going to help him it will just hinder him. My son will be 3 in November and he still falls perodically throughout the day. It is all part of growing up and developing balance. Baby proof your furniture and cover hard edges and hopefully you will all get through this with minor boo boos.

Basically I agree you can't hinder him. We have hardwood floors throughout the main floor of the house too. I never stuck my son in a playpen because yes he would have hated it. He knows his crib and pack & play is for sleeping. I just tried to keep him in a room where i could keep an eye on him. I got some of those foam tiles which helped and they also sell these knee pads to protect his legs a little or I think someone suggested using their husband's socks and cut off the feet and make your own pads. There is no way to prevent boo boos. Some days we have more bumps than others, but my son just cries for a couple of minutes and then ready to go again.

We bought some of those foam floor tiles, and it's helped tremendously! You can get them at ToysRUs for about $30 for the alphabet, or at Lowes for about $16, just the plain tiles. Hope that helps!
