Crawling - Indianapolis,IN

My son will be nine months the 29th and he's still not crawling yet, has anyone else had this with their babies? He had multiple ear infections for seven months and had tubes put in one month ago, could this be why? I'm working with him but he's still not getting it. He has no teeth yet either.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you everyone for your responses!! :-) I'm not as worried, he does scoot just no crawling yet, a little 6 month old at his daycare started crawling all over the place last week that what when I started to question when he should start crawling, I can't remember when my eight year old started, but thank you all for your reassuring responses. :-)

My son walked before he crawled! He would scoot all over the place, was really quite good at doing it fast, and then at 10 months, stood up and walked!

My daughter was 11 months before she ever moved out of a sitting position. She walked 2 months later. I wouldn't worry. as for the teeth, none of my 3 children had any teeth before 12 months of age.
Good Luck.

My kids didn't crawl until 10 months with teeth at 11 months.....relax and enjoy the little time left of him being non-mobile....the rest happens quickly.

Some babies never crawl. They go straight from lying on their bellies to standing and walking. So I really wouldn't worry about it. Also, my good friend's son just got his first tooth and he's 10 and a half months old. ^_^ I think you just need to be a bit more patient.

neither one of my boys (I have 2) crawled until about 12-14 months old. I wouldn't worry about the crawling.I would think he should be getting some teeth by now even if they are just little ones pooking through. You can always take him to a children's dentist and see if they can do an x-ray to see if there are any under the gums ready to come up.

Never fear! My son didn't crawl until 10.5 months and walked at 13.5 months. I am watching a little girl who is 1 who is not crawling or walking either. Every child is different and moves at their own pace. Definitely talk with your doctor at his 1 year appt if still no progress to see what they say. As for teeth, those come in a various ages, every child is different there too....so not to worry! I have had plenty of friends whose kids didn't get any teeth until after a year, its amazing what they can eat without teeth!

My son was 10 months when he sterted crawling and walked only a month later. He is now 16 months and is running and jumping and getting into everything. Every baby develops at a different rate so I don't think you have anything to worry about. And once they start moving, it's all over for us parents! Enjoy the peaceful immobile stage as long as you can!

Hi M.! Don't worry, both my boys did not start crawling until 10 months old and walked by 15 months old. According to the norm, I guess that is considered "later" than most children, but everyone is different. They are both very healthy and developing normally. Your son may even skip the crawling phase all together and go straight to walking! Hang in there, he will be mobile before you know it!

I have two stories to share:

1) my daughter took forever to start crawling - but once she did start crawling...she almost immediately went to walking - almost skipping the crawling phase. She was 10 months old when she started walking. So don't worry too much about crawling :-)

2) my cousin's daughter had a number of ear infections during her first year and didn't pass a hearing test until she was 1 year old. She was almost 16 months old when she finally started walking. I'm convinced that it was because of the chronic ear issues. I'm sure her equilibrium was off becuase of them - making it extremely difficult to balance and start walking earlier.

I'd really try not to worry about it because every child is truly different...but I would mention it to your pediatrician just in case.

Hope these two stories help :-)
