First of all, don't pick it-fingernails are not clean-put olive oil on it-wait about 15 minutes, then brush the flakes gently and shampoo-shampoo at least once/day until it is gone-clean the brush every time-it should go away pretty quickly.

best remedy ever- cover it in a thick layer of baby oil and let it set for a few minutes...after a few minutes take a fine tooth comb (like the black ones they use at the barber or the smaller version in the kids hairbrush/comb kit) and comb the hair, you sometimes have to scratch it lose a little either with your finger nails or the comb...this sounds harsh, but it doesn't hurt baby....I swear this works so amazing...

I used to do the baby oil to soften it up, then wash it with shampoo or plain water.

Just don't wash too often, or the glands that produce oil (which is what causes cradle cap...) will go into overdrive and make it worse. My DD had cradle cap so bad that it was starting to spread as a rash down her neck and chest, and had to be out on a prescription to clear it up. Luckily, she had long, thick hair so it was mostly hidden. After we got it under control, I only washed her hair once a week and never had another issue with it. :)

wash her head with baby shampoo. you need to gently scrub. then take a baby comb and gently comb her scalp to get the flakes off. you can put some oil on her head to make it easier.. do it daily until it is gone.

not a big deal. part of being a baby.

The old oil and brush trick is fine, but a little messy. There are some baby care brands that sell cradle cap remedy (like California Baby) which may be hype, but smells better than oil. I decided not to do anything about my sons' cradle cap, even though my mom harassed me about it, because I realized even the gentlest scrubbing is irritating to a little baby. The cradle cap doesn't bother them. Why irritate their delicate scalp just because it looks bad to an adult? She will grow out of it soon.

while at the hospital they should have given you a plastic baby brush to scrub her head with. while bathing her gently rub her head with it when shampooing. it will break off the flakes. between drying and dressing her after her bath apply a baby lotion or oil.
