Couple of Questions About the Use of This Site:

Couple of questions about the use of this site:

1). I know someone asked about a sports bra for larger chests not that long ago. When I type that in to the Search bar, I get a ton of answers, but it starts with 2009 or so. There's no way (unless I am missing something) where you can sort for the most recent answers. I think there were quite a few good responses to that question when it was asked a few months back. Any way to refine a search? I typed in "Sports Bra Large 2015" but that turned up nothing.

2) Sometimes when I see moms' responses and they have updated their answer/reply - it says "Updated" and then it looks as if their entire response was repeated.
And then other times you see an "ETA" or "Added" and there's just the little bit they added for clarification or something they wanted to add to their reply. But the whole reply is not repeated.

What is the difference? Or what are they pressing (which button) to have two different results appear?

Not sure if that made sense. Just wondered. Thanks :)

What can I do next?

  • Add yourAnswer own comment

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone :)

I was always a little hesitant to add to my replies in case it would make my answers appear more gigantic than they sometimes are when I get long winded.

An updated search feature would be excellent! thanks for passing our thoughts along Mike

The "updated" part with the entire answer repeated happens when you click to post and the site is slow to upload it. If you click again because you think it didn't work, it shows up duplicated. It can happen on the first post, I think. In any case, it doesn't mean the responder changed anything. It's happened to me several times, so I've just gone back in and deleted the repeat. If you edit your actual answer, I don't think anything shows up that you have edited it. I wish that the questioner would get a prompt that says "So and so has updated the response to your question." I've mentioned that in prior surveys when the admins ask what can be done to improve the site.

I've noticed the same thing about only getting old answers (2008, 2009) when you search for something - usually those responses aren't relevant to a 2016 search. I'll be interested to read what the moderators say about that.

Hi M.!

Thanks for the question and raising these issues.

As to our search feature, I agree you definitely raise a good point. It would be very helpful if we could filter our searches more specifically, or at the very least have the most relative AND recent emerge at the top of the search results. I am passing your concern up the ladder here and I am sure it will be considered as a possible site improvement.

Now as to the "updated" redundant text issue other members below here have pretty much summed up the problem exactly. It is a technical glitch that occurs due to a lagged or slow server. As it happens, we have recently made some internal technical improvements to the sight which have significantly improved page load times and should as a result impact this very issue in a positive way. Simply put, it should happen far less frequently.

We are alway striving to make visiting Mamapedia as great an experience as possible for our members, so thanks very much for bringing issues like this to our attention. I assure you we take them very seriously.

Thanks M.!
M.

Yeah, the search function has never been great.
There's no way to sort the results and you get stuff from way back a few years ago rather than newest more recent info first.

As for the 'updated' repeated posts - it's a server thing.
If the server is being sluggish, it'll repeat a post one or more times and add 'updated' to every iteration.
If I see a response of mine turn out like that, I'll go in and delete the repeated stuff.

The "updated" is a glitch of the site.
ETA is short for "edited to add", so is synonymous with Added.

I've never gotten the search function to work efficiently - although I haven't tried lately.

If our computer takes too long to save our answer and we click "post" again it duplicates the answer. That's why you see the "updated" notice and there are 2 copies of the response.

When you're searching for something tangible, like a garment or item that can be purchased the search isn't going to do you any good. Those items come and go so quickly that nothing about them is relevant today. This sort of question is only good for a few weeks because garments are brought out every few months and the past ones are gone for good.

If you were asking about having breast reduction surgery so bras would fit better then you'd find a lot of responses regarding this that are personal opinions and stories of what they've gone through with their own breasts.

If you're searching for what to do if your stepdaughter is mean to you then you will get good "timeless" responses. That means that any answer given will be germane to that topic and have worth.
