Could Nursing Cause a Negative Test?

I know this sounds weird but I'm not sure. I'm nursing my 10 month old still and the last two weeks I have been bloated, nauseous, smells bother me and my nipples have also been sore. I have taken a few test spaced out and they have all been negative but something tells me that something else is going on. My c-section is also bothering me tons and I get sharp pain around the right side. I do go to the doctor tomorrow (not the one I wanted) but I wanted to know if it was possible to be pregnant but test negative. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My giant cyst on my right ovary caused a lot of symptoms that seemed to mimic pregnancy symptoms. I think it has something to do with hormonal imbalance - hope that is not the case for you. If a blood test comes back negative for HCG, please ask for an ultrasound to rule out a cyst. Best wishes for good health.

No, they are just as accurate as when not breastfeeding. Breastfeeding can't alter the HCG hormone. It's very rare to have such symptoms before getting a positive test result, but I suppose anything is possible! There is a chance, it's too early for a test to detect pregnancy. You could get a blood test to be sure. False negatives are extremely rare, except when testing too early. If you aren't wanting to be pregnant, use some sort of protection. I only say that, because I had a friend who thought she couldn't get pregnant when nursing!! If you are wanting to be pregnant, good luck!!!

It is possible, but only because it could still be too soon. A blood test will definitely confirm it. Either way you need to be examined for your c-section pains. The symptoms, other than pains, could also be from your hormones trying to get back to normal. Good Luck and hope you feel better!

I'd say you were either pregnant and/or your appendix may need to be taken out.

if you aren't pregnant, appendicitis can cause you to become nauseous and it's it located on your right side (about 3 inches from your right hip bone). Press it in really hard and then release and see if there is pain to follow. My appendix was wrapped around a lot of my inner organs and it was the biggest the doctors had removed, but it never popped (which is great).

Good luck and please let us know the outcome. I don't think an ob can test you for appendicitis and you shouldn't wait a minute longer- go and get it checked out.

My sister was nursing her daughter when she was 8 months old. She had a positive pregnancy test then. I now have 2 beautiful neices who are 17 months apart. :) I think it would show up if it's soon enough to test.

If you're pregnancy you'd get a positive test, even while breastfeeding. False negatives are rare.
