Could It Be Twins?

Hello, I just went to my OB appointment and I was 15 and 1/2 weeks. I am huge like a basketball already and everyone tells me, "Its your third, your body already knows what to do, so its bigger faster." I am insanely tired and grow out of clothes as fast as I can buy them but Im not gaining weight. Just a bigger belly. The midwife said Im measuring large for date. The date is pretty accurate because my husband was only here for 2 months an I found out during that time that I was pregnant. So, does it sound like twins? Maybe its just a linebacker. I usually dont show until about 5 months. I have been in maternity clothes since about 3 months. I get an ultrasound in Jan. and Im pretty sure I will be wondering until then. Either way I am as happy as a clam and cant wait to have this baby, or babies:)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the comments. I went to my ultrasound and it isn't twins, its just one big 'ol boy. I can't wait to see him!

My second pregnancy was a twin pregnancy. I was definitely showing sooner than I thought I would. I found out at 8 weeks that it was twins. If you are really concerned about it ask for an ultrasound. My boys were identical and therefore TTTS was always a concern. There was a lot of extra monitoring involved. Good luck!

Hi, I had twins. They are two now but when I was 10 wks I was bleeding a little bit so they did an sonagram to see if the baby was o.k and they found two! Whoa, what a shock I never thought about twins. They are fun and worth every moment of work but they are twice the work for sure. I do think they would have already done a sonagram on you if they thought it was twins. I didn't actually start getting bigger than with my first pregnancy until about 6 months along. Good luck!

Its prob just exactly what everyone else says its most likely just that your body is used to it. If there were two your ob would prob already hear 2 heartbeats. good luck.

It really is true that you show earlier with every pregnancy. By my third, I was showing at about three months and my fourth, I think I showed almost immediately.

You are 15 weeks and not had an ultrasound? That is strange to me, I always had at least one in my first trimester.

Also, all of my babies have been large. I measured very large with them and only had one baby at a time.

Good luck either way :o)

I feel your pain. I'm on my 3rd baby, and I usually don't show till about 6 or 7 months. I look really pregnant and am 20 weeks. I've had to wear maternity clothes since right after I found out I'm pregnant this time. I kept thinking it's got to be twins, but there's only one baby in there. We found out it's a boy on Friday.

Hi A.!
When I was 8 weeks with #3 I was already feeling movement, measuring big, and showing!
I have strong family indicators for twins. But, there was only one in there.
I agree with everyone that by #3....your body is already stretched and 'conditioned' for a babie so everything happens quicker!
Good Luck!!!

Good Morning. Yes, I suppose it could be twins. But then again, theres really no way to know until you get the ultrasound. I did the same thing with my son. Everyone swore that I was carrying twins. I lost weight through most of my pregnancy and in the end had only gained a total of 18 pounds. He weighed 9lb 14oz. and was 23 1/2 in. long. So it could be a linebacker too. Wish I could tell you for sure, but waiting for the ultrasound is the only way to know. Good luck.

Honestly it doesnt really sound like enough to determine twins. With my second I knew the exact date I concieved (My husbands birthday) and I also measured big and I was worried that the baby would end up too big. He ended up weighing 7 15..basically 8 pounds. My aunt (being a small women) also on her thrid had a HUGE belly...almost looked like she had a big tumor in the front. Her boy also was born large. You could also ask your midwife for an ultrasound to know for sure but normally they can determine early wether or not ur may be expecting twins by how they listen to the heartbeat. Normally if there r 2 fetuses the midwife would have heard them on the doppler.Honeslty since your already almost 5 months....Im positive that if you were pregnant with twins you'd know it by now b/c they monitor women who have twins more closely to make sure one fetus doesnt take from the other.

Hey A.,

It could be twins, but more likely eveyone else is right. Since this is your third baby your body does know what to do and it also depends on how long ago baby #2 was. Mine were 18 months apart so my body was well aquainted with what to do and my best friend had 2 & 3 about 18 months apart. She showed early with #3 too. If you have major concern like that you should address it with your doctor or midwife and they should be able to ultrasound you earlier just to tell. They can tell how many are there fairly early. I hope this helps
