Could a Dairy Allergy Cause a Fever (And Diarrhea)?
Since my 11 month old was a baby I have avoided dairy in my diet due to a intolerance thru my breastmilk (she would get bad gas and spitup a ton). We have avoided diary. My dr said to go ahead and try yogurt, so on yesterday afternoon I have her 5 baby-spoon bites of yogurt (she loved it).
When we got home about 5 hours later, she was crabby and seemed warm so I took her temp (rectally) and it was 101! So I gave her some tylonal and the temp went down. About an hour later she had a very icky diaper, diarrhea and a lot of mucus. The fever stayed down all night with no more meds. It was 99 this morning morning and we haven't checked it since she is playing and seems normal. She just had another blow-out yucky diaper.
What do you think. Is the temp and diarrhea a coincidence? Should I just wait until she is feeling better in a week or so and try the yogurt again?
Also, last Tues/Wed I had a stomach bug (vomiting and diarrhea) and then she got diarrhea for 2 days. Is it weird that she got another stomach bug the very next week? She does go to daycare a couple times a week...

Probably not allergies causing a fever, probably still a bug. I'm saying this to you as a nurse though. Unless your doc has told you and taught you how to take a temp rectally, you shouldn't be doing that. You can cause sooooooo much damage if you don't know what you're doing. If you're in the medical field and you know how to do this, than great, otherwise I really hate to hear parents say they do this.
All you have to do is either take it under the arm and add a degree or get a good ear thermometer and use that.

Illness causes fever.
Not allergies.
Teething may also cause fever.

Don't think the allergy would cause the fever- however- if she has the allergy and has just had a stomach virus the dairy could cause a flair-up of the original virus. We have experienced this with my daughter. The original virus already has the intestinal tract irritated- then the addition of the dairy to which she is allergic just adds to the irritation. I would wait a month and make sure her tummy is well healed then try the yogurt again. My daughter has a diary allergy- milk and ice cream are really tough on her- but she tolerates yogurt a few times a week just fine- good luck!

Not sure about the fever, but diarrhea and mucus in poo is a telltale sign of food intolerance/allergy. Fever may be from a bug. I would discontinue dairy until fever/illness is gone, then maybe try again and watch closely.

My daughter is 29. She is highly allergic to milk and rice. She hasn't had a reaction in a long time but when she was little, eating even a little of these would cause fever and constipation which would take 2 to 3 weeks to occur and about a week to get past. Yes, it sounds like a virus but it was predictable every time. As a consequence, she is extremely careful about eating these ingredients!
