Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some cookie recipes that I can do with my 2 and 3 year old kids. I love to bake and want to really start getting into the holiday spirit with the kids this year. Does anyone have an easy recipe that they can help with, since all I hear is "Me help, Mommy". I want to do cookies since we already do a "Pumpky Pie".

I've never done cookies but have done muffins and banana bread. Have you tried lasagna? It's easy and sooo much fun, and it's dinner! e-mail me at penfar at comcast dot net for info on the lasagna.

There's no baking involved in making witches hats. They are easy and there is fun for little fingers.

Buy:
1 pack of Keebler fudge stripe cookies + 1 bag of Hershey's kisses + 1 large tube of orange decorator icing (the creamy kind, not the gel.

Lay out the cookies on a flat surface, stripe side down.

Unwrap as many kisses as you have cookies.

Place a small dollop of icing on the underside of the kiss and adhere it to the center of the cookie.

Now, with the icing make trim and a bow surrounding the base of the Hershey's kiss.

Done!

If you go to www.northpole.com and then look through the recipes there are a ton of holiday cookie recipes. I bake with my two now 5 and 3 every holiday but I prepare all the dough ahead by myself. That way I can mix up a few doughs each night. I make double batches of 10 different kinds. When the dough is made I wrap it in saran wrap, put it in a ziploc bag with the recipe so I have the temp and time for cooking and then the kids and I pick out ones that cook on the same temp and make those that day. If it is just a drop cookie they use my scooper and and drop the dough on the sheet. For snickerdoodles they roll the balls in the mixture before putting them on the sheet, they love making the fork prints on the peanut butter cookies and when we do the kiss cookies they love to unwrap the foil from the kisses and put them in the center of the cookie when it comes out of the oven ( of course I move the cookies off the tray before they do this). It really makes them feel like they are a part of things without all the mess. I started making all of the doughs and baking them later before I had kids when I was working and it really saves a lot of time. You can actually make the dough up to 2 weeks ahead of time. Enjoy.

I bake with my children all of the time. When mixing I let my 3yo hold my hand while I measure and put the ingredients in the mixer, she used to hold my hand (her hand on top of mine) while cracking eggs, now she cracks them herself then hands them to me to open and pour into the bowl. One of the best investments was a flour sifter, with help or by themselves they turn the crank to sift, before that they would use spoons and a fine mesh strainer to sift, I sift wether the recipe calls for it or not! Sugar cookies are great, I give them a small amout if dough to work with, they help with the cutters and putting sprinkles and such on the cookies before they go in the oven. I think the recipes that you choose to make should coincide with the patience and interests of your little ones. My older daughter lets the decorating end of the business, my youngest the mixing, they are a matched set!. Good luck and have fun!

ANy good sugar cookie recipe, so the kids then can use cookie cutters. I ordered a bunch of cool ones from an online company a few years ago, to reflect my kids' interests...my daughter plays cello and clarinet and my son piano and trombone, so I got those...as well as the animals they like, musical notes, etc. The sky's the limit...almost!

ALSO, I made brownies all the time with my kids...back of the Bakers' Chocolate box, one-bowl...and by the time my daughter was 4 she was making them 100% (other than pouring into the pan and dealing with the over) herself and now, at 13, she makes the brownies, as well as many other cookies and bar cookies, 100% herself, or with her younger brother's help.

Also, chocolate molds are fun. Michaels has some, there's a great store in Hatboro (K P or something like that) with more, and I've order specific ones online.

Have fun!

Hi this is actually a no bake recipe but my kids always enjoy making them and they are yummy yummy yummy.
They are like the buckeyes except oreo.
1 pkg oreo cookies
1 8oz softened cream cheese.
Melted chocolate.

Crush oreo cookies (i do it in a food processor because it makes them finer the finer the better) then i dump them into a bowl and use a mixer and add the cream cheese.
You roll this mixture into little bowls and put them on wax paper. (my kids like rolling them) once you have these done you dip them in the melted chocolate and put sprinkles on them (my kids like doing the sprinkles to) you can be creative and use colored chocolate. It is simple and YUMMY !
Hope this helps.

Hi S., Here is a family favorite that only requires a microwave, wax paper, cookie sheets, a couple of spoons and a cool place!

1 bag of butterscotch chips
1 cup of smooth peanutbutter
1 bag of crispy chowmein noodles
candied cherries cut in half (optional)

Melt the chips and peanutbutter together in a microwave safe bowl (stir often) then pour over noodles in a big bowl and stir gently til coated. Drop by the tablespoon onto wax paper covered cookie sheets and put half a cherry on to decotrate. Place in a cool place until they firm up. Then enjoy!! This is a great to do with kids. Quick, easy, and not too messy. Plus the cookies are really great! Have fun!

I am so excited to share this with you but we have had such a busy day i haven't had time to track down a link to the actual recipe But i got it from Allrecipe.com and the title is Playdough Cookies

I love these Cookies they are too awesome. Just mix up the dough, divide it into how ever many colors you want and add the food coloring. Then let the kids at it.
I really really love the look of the swirled rainbow --like a giant day long lollipop-- and you could even get sucker sticks and really do them up. So fun for a birthday party favor or just to play with.
I can't remember if the dough needs chilled or not, you might want to make a batch when they are in bed just to be able to experiment and play with it yourself.

I just reread your post and realized you were asking for holiday cookies but these would make really cute candy canes!!

Hope you have a ball!!!

When my boys were young, I would make a batch of Rolled Sugar Cookies to make cut out cookies. You can have them help somewhat with the measuring - just be prepared for some mess and try to be patient with them as they learn. I had a bunch of different shaped cut out forms and different kinds of colored sprinkles and jimmies to decorate the cookies. I would give each child a small mound to work with on a piece of wax paper at the kitchen table which they could roll out (child sized rollers are easy to use and I believe can be found in toy stores and baking supply stores) and cut out a cookie or two. When they were baked, they could then eat their cookie with a glass of milk. Memories were made. Make sure you take a picture to freeze the memory.

Rolled Sugar Cookies
2 cps. all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
6 TBSP. butter or margarine
1/3 cp. shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 TBSP. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Oven 375 degrees for 8 minutes or till done.
Stir together flour, baking powder and 1/4 tsp. salt. Beat butter and shortening for 30 seconds; add sugar and beat till fluffy. Add egg, milk, vanilla; beat well. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating till well combined. Cover and chill at least 3 hours. Working with 1/2 of the dough at a time, on a lightly floured surface roll to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. (Makes 36 to 48 cookies). Enjoy!

After all these years, all I do is the ready to bake holiday cookies. Break them apart and put them on the cookie sheet, lol. At the very most, I buy the sugar cookie dough ready made and just press out the shapes with cookie cutters. I'm too tired to do anything more than that, lol.
