Does anyone know of a service/company/machine that can convert old tapes to digital? They're the smallish ones that go inside the camcorder, not the VHS size. Thanks!

There is a customer of mine in Elk Grove Village that has this service. I can't find his business card right now - but he does exhibit at local craft fairs trying to get business. He is usually at the Palatine High School craft fair or the Fremd Fair (Fremd is Dec. 13th). I think Palatine is this coming Sat. - Nov. 15th.

Try Wolf photo. They converted a small VHS to disc for me several years back. You then may be able to copy it to the computer. It was the Wolf in Evanston, but I am sure they all do it. They had to send it out. Good luck.

Both Walgreens and CVS does this. You can often find coupons in the Sunday paper for Walgreens...to get a extra free copy. I have used Walgreens many times. It is 29.99 for 2 sixty min tapes copied onto 1 disk.

Sometimes, you can hook the camera right up to a computer with a usb or firewire cable. If you have a mac you can burn dvd's with idvd. PC's have lots of software, just look for recommendations on those that are easy to use.

It sounds like you can hook up a camera up to those dvd recorders. You'd probably have to go to the store and see what it actually needs to work.
My aunt had several vhs converted to dvd, and it started to exceed a few hundred dollars so she bought the vhs converter/that outputs to dvd.

Costco just started offering the service within the last 6 months or so. The guy in the photo dept said that in addition to the transfer, you get instructions on how to crop or edit the CD or DVD.

Good luck, let me know how it goes!

There's a huge building sign on route 83 just south of North Ave on the west side of the street that advertises video copies.

I'm pretty sure that costco has a service that does this - I saw it advertised at the checkout line.

Hi Becky,

My husband does video transfers as a side business. I know his prices are very competitive and most often less expensive. If you're interested, send me an email at ____@____.com or call ###-###-####.
