Convection Oven?
Hey moms I need to replace my oven range. I'm looking to buy a Maytag oven range with a smooth top but I can't decide if it is worth it to upgrade to the oven that has convection. Supposedly it makes baking multiple trays of cookies more efficient but no one I knows actually has one so I'm wondering if you have a convection oven do you use that feature and do you like it. Some reviews said that it is hard to learn how to use the feature and other people love it.

I love my convection oven, but you couldn't pay me to use a flat top range.
The heat on a flat range isn't constant, so it's a pain in the butt.
I highly recomment a Kenmore gas range with convection oven. Wonderful. I've had mine for 4 years and will never go back to an electric range. Plus...when the power goes out? I can still cook. :-)

There's nothing "hard to learn", you set the temp & start. I've had mine 2 yrs & love it. But like others said, I do not like smooth top either, they are not user friendly.

I miss my convection oven so much. I had one that was a microwave/convection combo. I loved how much it cut off the cooking time. I really miss mine.
I like how evenly everything cooked and how nice and brown meat was. If I needed a new stove/oven/range I would go with a gas one, burners on top, with convection heat in the oven.
I don't like flat range tops due to not being able to really cook hot stuff on them. They crack and are not fixable if they get too hot. For instance, you should not try to can foods on them. The jars with the foods in them have to simmer for an extended amount of time to heat the ingredients to a safe temp then it will make them seal.

My mom has a convection/regular oven combo. The convection is Wonderful! Yes you get to cook everything in the oven at the same temperature. Another wonderful feature is that it doesn't heat up your house like a regular oven does. I will upgrade to get the feature when I have to replace my oven.

I love it when I remember to use it. Dehydrates pretty good too.
Oh, hard to learn, nope. You put in the temp it does the rest.

I've only used one in an (oh what's the right word) industsrial kitchen? The church I used to work at had a large kitchen with the products that a restaurant would use. Anyway ...
The ones I used were very large and had 3 or 4 shelves. They worked really well for baking multiple items because they heat was very even. When you use a regular oven all the heat is either on the top or the bottom, so one of the shelves gets much more heat than the other. In a convection over it distributes the heat quite well. We did find that ours didn't work properly (the heat was greater in some places than others), so we rotated everything about halfway through. Worked out just fine for us.
As Jo said, ours were easy to use. Just set the temp and go.

My Mom loves her convection oven but hates her flat top burners. I wish I would have upgraded to the convection oven when I bought my gas range.
