My daughter is 9 months old I'm trying to figure out what foods cause constipation. Think she might be constipated. Thanks.

What can I do next?

When was the last time she "went"? My daughter has been constipated since she was 10 months old, she is now 5. We used prune juice and pear juice when she was a baby but had to go as far as doing suppositories and enemas because it got so bad. She is now on a daily dose of Miralax and has been since she was about a year old. She still has occasional issues.

Push green veggies and fruits like peaches, pears, etc. Try to serve whole grains as all that processed stuff can cause constipation as well. Good luck, but if all else fails, call the dr. He/she will tell you what's best.

Also milk and cheese are very constipating, have you started to give her cow's milk by any chance.

Prunes are miraculous.

bananas will. Just google "foods that cause constipation" and you'll get the whole batch.

Apples, rice, bread..they all contripate. Try giving her a little prune juice.

For mine, at that age, I blamed the rice cereal. I switched to oatmeal (Earth's Best, to be precise) and life was good again for a while. Mine was still breastfed (it is supposed to help with constipation), but it still happened, I'd say at least once a month. I bought dried organic, unsulphured prunes from Wholefoods (could not find fresh and organic anywhere), boiled them in a little water, then pureed them, and frozen them in the ice cube tray. Whenever I got worried about her being constipated, I'd pop one in her food, and she'd go by the next meal... When I finished those I figured that they actually carry prune stuff at BabiesRUs, and I bought a couple from there. To be onest, the one I made was the most efficient, but the one from the shelf works too - might need to have two meals of it before it works, though.
I never gave her rice cereal again, and I go easy on the bananas - half a banana every other day is the max my 14 months gets. The other thing is to offer them water often - they don't know they are thirsty yet...

Hi-
I know that banana's caused constipation in my nephews. And they all love bananas. The solution for them was less banana's, other mixed fruits, and sometimes miralax. Ask your doctor how old the baby needs to be before giving her a substance to make her poop. He may have an alternative answer. Also, if you are breastfeeding, eat more leafy greens and things that make you go. If you are formula feeding, maybe add a little miralax to the bottle, or feed her watered down prune juice (half and half ought to do it, in a 4 ounce bottle).
Hope that helps.

P.S. The little pellet like poops means that she needs more in her body to soften it and hydrate it. This is definitely a prune juice and perhaps alternative methods day. It will get better, and it will come and go until she gets on a solid, solid food regime.
Good luck!

Not sure of what specific foods can cause constipation, but it's usually due to something missing in the diet. Is she drinking lots of fluids, especially water? Is there enough fiber in her diet, fruits or juices (prune and pear help constipation), veggies, whole grains?
