Consignment Store or Needing to Get Rid of a Bunch of Clothing/bedding

I have been meaning to clean out my closets for about 3 years now. Well I am expecting my 2nd child and have to make room. I have about 4 HUGE bins full of clothing and bedding that are all in pretty good shape (some still with price tags) that I know I will never wear again (mainly because I can't fit into them anymore) or will never use. I was going to do a garage sale but after I have had the stuff sitting in my room for 3 months, I realize that this will probably never happen and I am running out of time. I don't have the time to sell stuff on ebay or else I would probably do that. I would just donate it and get a tax write-off but the majority of the clothing is really nice stuff from Banana Republic and Express and Ann Taylor and I hate to just get a $50 tax refund for the amount of money that I had spent on all of this clothing (some are really nice cocktail dresses also). I went to the "I sold it on ebay" store to see if they would sell it and they only take items that will sell for more than $50 individually priced. I wasn't sure if anyone knows of any consignment store that would take this stuff that is the in the Frisco/McKinney/Plano area. If not, does anyone have any really good charity that would give a tax write-off for women and men's clothing.

I did the exact same thing several months ago and was sure I could make some cash from my great clothes... ha! I spent all day driving to different resale stores across the metroplex and no one took much at all. I had pretty much the same brands as you. It seems that now, those stores are really only typically looking for designer labels. You could try selling the lot on craigslist. You'd have nothing to lose other than a few moments of your time. I ended up giving all of my stuff to the Leukemia Society. They send trucks around our neighborhood every so often and pick up anything you want to donate. You just leave the stuff outside and they leave you a tax receipt. Maybe keep an eye out to see if they or anyone else comes by your area.

I volunteer for the Miss Plano Frisco Organization and they are having a garage sale next month. I think they can give you a receipt for the donation as they are non-profit. www.mpfo.com is the website - contact ____@____.com if you want to find out if they will take your stuff and give you a decent receipt $ amount. We are currently raising money to help pay for some of the expenses - each of the titleholders are preparing for Miss Texas (Miss America Preliminary) and Miss Texas Outstanding Teen competitions. (Last year Miss Frisco, Shilah Phillips won Miss Texas and placed 1st Runner Up at Miss America) Part of our job is to be mentors to these girls and help them with skills that will aid them later in life, interview skills, speaking skills, fitness education, etc.

It is a huge undertaking to prepare for these competitions and we like to raise as much money as possible to help pay for wardrobe, training, scholarships and travel for the titleholders so the parents do not have to pay for as much.

You can also email me if you like and I will find out how the donations work - ____@____.com

Hi M.

You can try taking your items to Baubles & Beads in Richardson. They are located at the SE corner of Coit and Arapaho. They usually only take in-season items that are 2 years old or less. Baubles & Beads 980 North Coit Road Suite 2885 Richardson, TX 75080-5428 Phone: ###-###-####

There is a store in Allen called Cotton Island. Not sure if they would take cocktail dresses but you could ask them (couldn't find a website or phone # for them) They are located at the NE corner of McDermott/Main Street and Greenville Ave.

Also in Allen is a great charity store called ACO Resale Shoppe. It is a bit further east on McDermott/Main St. 801 E Main St # 972. They take mens, womens, kids, household, etc. and will give a receipt.

If I think of any other ideas, I'll send you a private message.

Good luck! N.

I just did the same with my baby clothing and took it to GoodWill and they give you a receipt that is balnk so you can fill it out to what the cost and amount of clothing and articles you donated. I don't have much spare time in my life right now so it is great because it's very quick... all you have to do is drop it off at a donation center. K.
