My period was supposed to start on May 11th so on May14th I took a pregnancy test and it came up positive. I took 2 more later that night and they too came up positive. I went to my primary care physician today and the urine test he did came up negative. I took 4 more tests hours later and they all came up positive and stil no period. He ordered bloodwork but I'm impatient to get the results. I have 2 children already and know how pregnancy feels and thats how I feel now. I drank about a pot of coffee prior to my doctor appointment, so my question is....Why did my doctor get a negative when all 7 of my home pregnancy tests come up positive? Am I pregnant?

What can I do next?

Why did you drink a whole pot if coffee? That much caf is bad for the baby. 1 medium cup a day is all that is good to drink while pregnant.

I got a false positive from a home pregnancy test due to a cyst on my ovary... They apparently produce a chemical that can trick the OTC tests to interpret it as HCG. The insert in the test box also states that cysts can result in a false result... Not necessarily saying you have a cyst; just saying that my own experiences with home tests have not always been correct.

First off, stop drinking coffee- you're pregnant!
Chances are what happened is that your doctor got really "watered down" pee from all the coffee you drank (coffee is a diuretic).

It's VERY rare/ almost impossible to get a postive HCG test (home pregnancy test) unless the HCG is there. You must be pregnant. Not sure what happened at the doctor, but like Dawn says, maybe you diluted the test with all the coffee you drank. Regardless, it's far more likely to get a false negative on a pregnancy test than a false positive, so I'd say you are pregnant, my friend! Congratulations!

Good luck with your pregnancy!

You are probably pregnant, though it is possible it is a chemical pregnancy. Wait for the bloodwork before you get your hopes up. Remember, there is no safe dose of caffeine while you are pregnant. In a recent study, women who consumed 200 mg or more of caffeine per day (two or more cups of regular coffee or five 12-ounce cans of caffeinated soda) had twice the miscarriage risk as women who consumed no caffeine. Women who consumed less than 200 mg of caffeine daily had more than 40 percent increased risk of miscarriage.

Hope everything works out for you.

I'd go with you ARE pregnant. Urine tests at the docs are no different than what we use at home.

Oh, goodness. Pregnancy tests are usually administered first thing in the morning when your urine is most concentrated, thus HCG levels are easier to detect.

I took a home pregnancy test with my first pregnancy (my second was done randomly at the family practitioner's office), and then called my OB/GYN. They said their tests in the office were the same that you'd purchase over the counter, so if it was saying I was pregnant, I was.

It could be a bad batch (lot) of tests at your physician's office, it could be that it wasn't your first morning urine, etc.

Only the blood work will tell if you're pregnant. My sister had 6 negative tests (including those done at the OB's office) before a positive confirmation resulting in my 13 year-old niece.

Good luck!

I was always told you can have a false negative, but not a false positive. Congratulations :)

My doc never even did a pregnancy test when I was expecting my kids. He said if you took one and it was positive, then he didn't have to. If you are feeling pregnant you probably are. I pretty much knew I was both times even before I took the test to be sure.

You probably drank too much and diluted the urine. Especially something like coffee which is a diuretic even if it is decaf. I would stay away from that much coffee since you are most likely pregnant, and you wouldn't want to increase your chance of miscarriage. Also, drink less before taking a pregnancy test, the more you drink the more dilute the urine and then less HCG in it. The tests at the Drs office are typically not as sensitive as a home test, those are pricier and the Dr,s spend less on theirs believe it or not, most of the time Dr.s order blood work to confirm or U/S and many don't even use urine tests anymore. My guess is you are pregnant and you just drank too much before a test that was not as sensitive as the ones you are using at home.

I would bet you are pregnant, small chance that 7 tests would be wrong. I bet drinking that much coffee diluted your urine and I thought normally Dr's give you a blood test since it's more accurate. Anytime I went to the Dr they always did the blood test to confirm pregnancy. I would agree with everyone else as well...you should stop drinking so much coffee. A small amount of caffeine is ok, but not a whole pot. Good luck and congrats!

I would guess that yes, you are pregnant. I thought the tests at the doctor's were super-sensitive but maybe I am wrong. I would venture to say the bloodwork will show you are pregnant. Good luck :)

Do a blood test, a quantitative HCG, it's more sensitive and decisive. Your doctor can order it.
