Last night after my son went to bed, I went to turn on my laptop and it wouldn't turn on. It had been on when I left for work. This morning I asked my son if he had been on the computer and he said he was playing an online game on agame.com and suddenly the screen froze and the images "smeared in little squares" across the screen then the computer abruptly shut itself off. He didn't bother mentioning it to me when I got home because he thought he was going to be in trouble. When I pressed the power button, I could hear a very faint squeaking noise when I held my ear close to the laptop. So now I need to find a shop or someone who can take a look at it and figure out if it can be repaired. It's a year and a half old HP Pavillion. I'm looking for suggestions near Garner, NC (where I live) or Apex, NC (where I work). I'm hoping to find a shop that doesn't charge a fortune just to diagnose and is reasonable on repair rates. Also, if anyone has had this particular problem happen to them, any suggestions on what could have happened are welcome!

Thanks!

I highly recommend Xpert Technology Solutions off Tryon Rd and Hwy 64 in Cary. They are great and extremely honest. They will only do what is necessary. Phone # is ###-###-####.

Have you looked up the issue on the HP help FAQs? http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/welcome.html#Support go here and enter your information and then search on the issue.

It sounds like a harddrive crash. I use Intrex computers or Geeksquad. They are pretty good. Not cheap though. I don't think there is such a thing unless you do it yourself.

This may sound lame, but is the laptop plugged in? Kids have a tendency to unplug things so the cord may look like it is plugged in, but its not. The battery could just have enough power to whirl the fan.

Hello! There's nothing worse than not having computer access. When my mother's computer broke down, she called Computer Service & Repair at ###-###-####. The man's name that fixed her computer was Michael Barskile. He actually came to her home in Fuquay Varina, but I believe his shop is in Garner, near Timber Dr. So, you have the option of having him come to your house to fix it or bring it in to his shop. My mother felt he was very nice and knowledgeable about computers. He also has email: ____@____.com and a website: www.csrnc.com
Hope this helps you!
