I am 30 years old. My son was born when I was 28. I had an uneventful pregnancy up til 37 weeks. At that point he stopped moving altogether. I kept going to the health center and being told I was a hysterical first time mom. One doctor didnt like the heart monitor results and kept trying to send me to Crouse who in turned would laugh and send me home. This went on for 2 weeks with nobody taking me seriously. Eventually they sent me to CNY imaging for biophysical profiles which he failed every time with zeros. Still the health center did nothing until he turned breech at 39 weeks. Then, they ordered an urgent c-section. Upon cutting me open and pulling him out, they discovered his cord was around his neck 3 times (hence the reason why he wasnt responding for weeks. They put him back in and demolished my uterus to get him out. They never even told me either, a nurse slipped up and said she was shocked he scored so high on the apgar being the cord was wrapped 3 times! They told me I could never give birth naturally again because of the severity of the incision into my uterus. Now I am plagued by miscarriage after miscarriage. I get 4 weeks along and instantly miscarry. Everyone passes the buck and blames everyone else, and no one will help me because I am on medicaid and they don't cover fertility issues. But its not a fertility issue, its a malpractice issue and no one will listen to me. I am just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems. Please emai me at ____@____.com

I cannot believe what happened to you. I had a big baby and a c-section and was monitered very closely the whole time. If I was you, I would contact a lawyer and sue those doctors. Good luck!!

My best suggestion would be to talk to an attorney. They can work to get your medical history records from all of the doctors who saw you. If there was no movement for extended periods of time, and issues with the heart rate discovered through monitoring, I would want to know why there was no sonogram run. While it is common that an emergency c-section will leave a woman not able to have a VBAC birth afterward, I would want a fertility specialist to do another ultrasound of my uterus, to see if scar tissue buildup is preventing implantation, which would lead to miscarriages. Unfortunately, your attorney would have to have your malpractice issues dealt with in order to make someone else pay for the medical care required to resolve the fertility issues that resulted from it. You would have to be able to prove that the doctors involved with your first pregnancy were guilty of malpractice or negligence, and that better pre-surgery diagnostics would have prevented the uterine damage caused by the surgery, AND that the miscarriages are a result of that damage in order to get anywhere.

I wish you a lot of luck. You're going to need it.

Hello from Hawaii:
I think you should find a legal practice that will give you a free consultation. You definitely have to attempt legal action. Just call and find out who deals with medical malpractices and someone that will take it without charge pending the outcome. Sorry to hear that you are going through this. A.

I have not experienced it to that extent, but I do understand what you are going through. I was pregnant with twins years ago one passed inside me, the other I had to deliver as a still born because the doctors told me the cord was wrapped around his neck. It was a horrifying experience, I was only 17 at the time. I had alot of support from my boyfriend, family, and friends. I had a funeral for my baby. Every pregnancy after that I had difficulty. With my daughter they stopped the contractions and I delivered her healthy, a year later I went into premature labor with my son and had an emergency C-section I thought we both were going to die that night. It was so much going on I don't remember anything but my Grandmother holding my hand and the doctor cutting my stomach(I told him to put me to sleep immediately) Idiot! LOL, anyways my son was born with complications and will have them for the rest of his life. The bad part about it is while they did everything possible for my son, I still wonder if their was any negligence on their part. They have lawyers you can actually contact that deal with that specifically. I saw a commerical on TV but I can't remember who they were. If you go online I'm sure you will find some support groups or organizations that may be able to help you in some way. Good luck!

Dear J.,

I am sorry I do not have any suggestions for you, but I would like to command you for being so strong. I have a 4 1/2 years old son, I had complications with my c-section as well when I gave birth to him, but it was due to the domestic violence I went through with my ex-husband. I do work full time, and am a student as well. That's why I wanted to send you this message, so you know that you are absolutely doing the right thing, and I hope you will find the help you need in order to solve your health issue. I would recommend you try services such as Legal Aid, to see if you could find some legal advice to your problem. Good luck to you.

I agree. It's time to get copies of all your medical records and consult a lawyer. This has affected your reproductive future and that is unexceptable. You were young when it happened and your fertility was still high. The longer you wait on this the more it you lose the chance for more children. You've already waited long enough. I wouldn't waste anymore time.

WOW!!! My name is J. also - also 30! I can't imagine what you have gone through. Have you gone through the phonebook at all to find legal aid? I am sure you have a case. Did you document/ or have proof of these appointments? If so, I would definetly seek help. Just because you get medicaid does not mean they can give you the runaround!!! Do you get WIC? maybe someone there can help you? I hope you find some answers!

CALL A LAWYER!!! I know that can't fix your problem now- but it may prevent those doctors from repeating this with another defenseless mom!
Good luck.
