Complexion Problems

OK was wondering if any of you have had the experience that I have had. I am 22 years old with a ten month old son. During my pregnancy my complexion was perfect. Before getting pregnant i had a problem complexion with occasional zits, dry skin and such. One month after giving birth my skin started having problems. Why is this?? I have read that pregnancy causes complexion problems not the other way around. Any advice on how to get the clear smooth skin back??

What can I do next?

Hello - I don't really have any advice for you. I am in the EXACT same boat. I had an occasional zit here or there before having kids, while I was pregnant and breastfeeding my skin was clear, and now that I'm done with all of it, my skin is worse than ever! I've tried topical prescription creams from the Dr., I've tried proactive, AcneFree, and tons of other over the counter washes and creams, and none of it has worked. If you find something that does the trick - please share! Hope it gets better for you, but in the meantime, just know you are not alone! Best of Luck ~ M.

My skin was a NIGHTMARE with my second pregnancy and I tried everything (my husband joked that our bathroom looked like isle 9 at CVS). I even had Arbonne, Avon, Mary Kay - you name it, I had it.

Only thing that worked for me (and stunned me!) was BURT's BEES!!!! On whim (and a large helping of desperation) I bought some at CVS.

They have a whole skin care line. Every night I use their Radiance facial cleanser, pore-refining mud mask and then their Radiance SPF facial cream (I put the cream on in the morning as well). My skin improved so much that I don't even use FOUNDATION anymore!!!!!!!!!!! Crazy I know.

Go pick some up at CVS, try it for a few days. WOW!

I have had acne problem plus dry skin forever! During my pregnancy I also had perfect skin not a zit in sight, it has something to do with hormones, with some women they have the opposite reaction -terrible breakouts.
Anyhow like you, after I gave birth my acne came back. I am going to facials now 1-2 a month and it really halps my skin. naything I use over the counter even proactive or tetracycline doesn't help me feel and look great. If you decide to do the facials just regular or European facial, ask them to use the high-frequency wand, it's like a big pen they run around your breakouts and it kills the bacteria, it really works.

I go to Heavenly Massage in NW IL and they have grat facials for $60 bucks.
I hope this helps.

Skin changes are very normal in pregnancy. It must have something to do with all the crazy hormones!! Nicole Miller has an excellent skin care line and cosmetics. I can show you how to sign up for a 40% discount!!

Hi K.!

It could be that it is inflammation or the fact that when we are pregnant, our bodies make so much more progesterone during gestation. And after the baby is born our bodies don't manufacture enough of the progesterone. In this society so many of our problems are due to inflammation and our bodies are estrogen dominant. There are estrogen receptors in our food clothing, carpeting etc. So, bringing the inflammation down will help!
Take care and congratulations on your little boy!

I get AcneFee at Walmart. Its the same stuff as Proactive but at half the cost and no shipping charges! Works for me and my son.

You have to be careful what you use if you are breastfeeding. I went to my dermatologist after my first daughter but she said I'd have to wait until i was done breastfeeding before she could put me on anything. So at least I was prepared this time around! The good news is it became very clear after so hopefully will again!

In my experience, pregnancy changes the chemical make up of your body and in your case eliminated a skin issue, once you had your child your body/skin went back to itself they way it was before you were pregnant. This is why your complexion issues came back. I have phsorias, when I was pregnant with my son it completely went away, I was in heaven! About a month after he was born it came back 100% to where it was before I was pregnant. When I was pregnant with my daughter it barely decreased and now its worse than it was before I was ever pregnant.

It can happen where people have perfect skin and get issues when pregnant too. It's been said that pregnant women have such beautiful glowing skin while pregnant. If only there was a way to capture it for life. There's a new skin product waiting to be developed. ha ha. =)
