Company Recommendation for Blinds for Windows

Hi - we moved into a home about 6 months ago and I think I have had it with the current window treatments because they are old, dirty, and hard to clean. I want to look into getting replacement blinds or shades and wondered what companies people recommend? I have heard I am going to be shocked by the price and how expensive it is and I'm just trying to do this the most cost-effective way, but still want to be happy with my choice in the end. Thanks for any advice in advance! :)

What can I do next?

I was pleased with JustBlinds.com. When I did a price check I found them to have great prices. I recommend getting the sample colors sent to you from any online place though - the colors really look different in person than they do online.

I just did this too and Budget Blinds came in first place. All the others were really much more expensive and they have ads in those mailers that you get. They come to your house with a free estimate and samples too! Good luck, you should shop around.

I'm a big fan of DIY. Lowe's has a great selection of blinds if that's all your looking for. They were easy to install and can be custom-fit.

For more DIY for soft window treatments, look at potterybarn.com. They have an entire section dedicated to window treatments - size, length, etc.

We have Bali. We used them in our old house and our new one.
You can buy them at Home Depot, but they are not a home depot brand.
I think they are reasonable.

Hi S.,

I shopped everyone under the sun (we have a TON of windows) because I knew we were in for a big expense - JC Penny's sale (the other post says they have one going on right now) beat everyone by at least 40%...Joyce at Woodfield Mall helped me...she made it easy and fun. I took her the color swatches from my rooms and her advice was dead on. I was heasitant on a couple things and am so glad I listened to her. They also have a guy that installs everything for dirt cheap....he was wonderful too. It's so rare to get a deal, great service and satisfaction these days.

I did mostly top down/bottom up cordless Bali and Levelor blinds and have been happy with them. A couple of them needed to be re-strung after about a year, but they come with a three year warranty. You do have to send them to send them in to be re-strung, but it's a small inconvenience for what you get.

Good luck!

Look at JC Penney - they sell custom blinds and have a sale going on right now.

JCPenney is a great place to get them. You can pick out what you want now, but don't buy until they have a 50% off sale.

You didn't say where you live so I don't know if this will work but I used Linda Polhemus from Custom Sewing Innovations. Her prices were competitive with Home Depot for my blinds. She came out and helped me look at options that worked for me but fit my budget etc. She is out of Hawthorn Woods. ###-###-####. Good luck. Nothing changes a room more than window treatments.
