Comfortable Car Seat for 2.5 Year Old

I am wondering if anyone knows of a car seat that is very comfortable! My 2.5 year old daughter has a very boney butt and it tends to hurt on extended car rides. We have tried the britex and even that seems to hurt her. She cries non-stop! I an not sure what else to try but was willing to buy a new car seat if it was not very expensive and was highly rated for safty. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We also do long extended car rides every year, this last trip we used a piece of sheep skin, no complaints after that. It keeps them cool also.

Do you know for certain that it is her butt that hurts? I ask because we had a Britax Marathon and a Sunshine Kids Radian in our cars. At around 3 my DS would always want to go in one car over the other - the one with the Radian in it. Once he figured it out and was able to articulate it, it turned out to be the seat angle. The Radian sits up much more straight, even though the Marathon looks like the comfiest thing that I'd ever want to ride around in - it does angle back a bit more.

We sold the Marathon and bought the new Graco Nautilus - it harnesses to 65 lbs. then converts to a belt positioning booster then to a backless booster. My DS loves it and didn't complain when we used it on a driving trip from CT to MN earlier this year. He isn't super bony, but doesn't have his chunky little toddler butt anymore either.

So I guess my point is, maybe it is something else that is bothering her???

And, I agree with the previous responder - take your DD with you to try out seats for her input. And even though you're never supposed to add any extras to carseats for safety reasons (it can compress during a crash), I think I might be inclined to try cutting a small pad out of thin memory foam for under her butt.

Best of luck!

Try them out in the store. At 2.5 she will probably be going into a booster before you know it. What if you buy something to pad your current seat with. like some fake lambs wool, or some foam padding. They make padding pillow sized you could cut it to fit her seat? My 16 month old never liked his infant seat because I think he wasn't cushioned enough. He had an alpha omega seat now and loves it. It transitions into a booster later and my oldest was a chunky butt until he was almost 3 so I never had a problem with carseats. I think extra padding for the seat may be your best bet. Good luck.

okay, very funny to see your posting on mamasource...i didn't think we were considered in the same area! obviously not writing to give you advice, just to say hi! talk to you soon

We like the Britex. My daughter loves this one. they are very comfortable and the starps are thick so they can not push the strap up down.

Try a little donut shaped pillow...her butt can go down in the middle of it. That's what we do for senior citizens with 'rhoids!

I was thinking perhaps put a little pad of some sort under her bottom.

Our doctor recommended adding a little padding to the seat. She did it with her kids too. We bought some thick batting at a fabric store and once we cut it to fit we put it under the car seat cover so it stays in place.
