Boiron makes a homeopathic called Occilliumcum (I am not spelling it correctly but it does work). Last March I got a killer flu and used it and was better in 2 days. I very rarely get the flu the last time was 1987. But, the night before I got sick I ate at a Mexican restuarant owned and run by a group of illegals. Since I speak Spanish fluently it was not a problem ordering food.
I am a person who avoids vaccinations and did not vaccinate my children. I understand how you feel.

I too am very interested in this issue, as I am 33 weeks pregnant with #2. I just went to an appointment for my son with his Naturopathic pediatrician, who also does womens care. We spent almost the whole time talking about me (being pregnant) and H1N1. We have only done one series of vaccines for my son, after MUCH research and discussion with his ped, who is extremely vaccine-conservative. So, I'm with you - very anti-vaccine and more concerned about the neurotoxins used as preservatives and the side effects from many of the vaccines.
I had absolutely NO intention of getting the H1N1 vaccine. That said, the ped did recommend the vaccine for me, which honestly, I was shocked to hear her say. Now, I am at a bit of a higher risk having a child in day care, I take public transit to and from work, I work in an office of 75 people in downtown Seattle, am prone to asthma/bronchitis during respiratory illness, and I am pregnant in my last trimester. We discussed this and she felt if I was a SAHM then we would be having a different conversation. She has told me after her extensive and daily research that there is NO thimerosol, no formaldehyde, no squalene in the vaccine that she is getting - this may not be so for all distributors. But, since she is a naturopath, she hand selects the 'brands' she receives and I do trust and value her opinion very much. I plan on reading the insert for further consideration. The whole thing though does make sick to my stomach to think about. Either way, there is a risk for me - if I get it, or if I don't.
I am also going for a VBAC and don't want anything to interfere with that, such as coming down with H1N1 right before labor. Additionally, she mentioned that the baby will be getting antibodies from me too which will be important. So, anyways, I am not sure what I will decide, but wanted to share (with you and other readers) the info that SOME of the H1N1 vaccines will NOT have the nasty preservatives. [Note: the nasal mist is NOT recommended for pregnant women.]
So, here's what my naturo-ped said about prevention, for me and my 2.5 year old son:
* 10 billion organisms probiotic daily
* Vitamin D supplements daily (2000 I.U.)
* Vitamin C (I think she recommended 500 mg 3x/day or maybe even 1000 mg 3x/day)
* Handwashing and good hygiene
I'm not too worried about it but do have lots of things to consider. It's a tough situation for us pregnant gals right now...

hey jennifer,
i am an anti vaccine mother too, some people think im crazy for not vaccinating my children, but i think they are crazy for vaccinating theirs, well, i did my research so i don't care what they think.
Avoid any type of vaccines. Especially the new N1H1 swine, and of course the flu vaccine. I heard that you are more likely to get the swine flu if you got the flu vaccine. When i was pregnant, i ate healthy foods like vitamins, homemade chicken soup, veggies and lots of fruits. Your immune system is the best defense system that you have.

Dear Jennifer,
It sounds as if you already know what to do to reduce your risk - washing hands, limiting contact with possibly sick people, etc. One thing, since you are pregnant and presumably getting prenatal care, is to try and avoid showing up to any doctor's visits early so you aren't hanging out in places where typically sick people go. Also, make sure you are washing your fruits and vegetables, particularly those with rinds/skins that you eat. And lastly, try to reduce your stress. Stress can have a negative impact on your body and if you can relax a bit and try not to worry (I know this can be hard, particularly when you're busy growing a human!), then your body will be in a better position to fight off illnesses.
Best of luck! Here's hoping we can all stay healthy during this coming cold season.

The Swine flu has just made a huge deal and it sucks because it is no worse than other flu out there. The only difference between the swine flu and any other flu is that it comes on very fast. You will have symptoms within 24 to 36 hours after exposure. (Most viruses have a 48 hour incubation time so you don't get symptoms so fast.) Other than that it is a flu virus, and like any flu virus if you have symptoms you need to see the doc asap while pregnant so that any treatment that can be given can be started right away and hopefully save you some misery from being sick and pregnant. Also, while your pregnant your immune is in overdrive anyway, so chances of you actually getting sick are less than anyone else in your family because your immune system is already on high alert.
I got exposed to swine flu at 12 weeks pregnant but never got sick. (Believe me we were freaking out that we would expose other people and all as well, but the CDC was helpful if you need to call someone.) The swine flu virus is airborne so ask people who are around you a lot to cover their mouth when they sneeze or cough if you can. Wipe down the handle on the shopping cart if you want to and otherwise stop stressing about it. Stress will decrease your immune systems efficiency, so breathe and relax.

Look into essential oils on www.youngliving.com . They have oils for antibacterial purposes as well as fighting off colds (Three Theives is their special blend...in fact its exactly the formula used by thieves during the plague. Ironically the thieves wouldnt the plague even though they were stealing off corpses who died from the plague because they were using this combo of essential oils!). Getting a nebulizer may work well for you too.

if you are anti vaccine (and I am not sure where I stand on the H1N1, but have chosen to have my kids receive others), then you just need to get over it - avoid croweded places, use lots of soap and water, and don't be paranoid- you still have to live (otherwise, what's the point of having kids?!)

Honestly is worse to get the H1N1 flu than to get the vaccine, just something to think about.
