Over two weeks I will be taking two trips and staying with family at each destination. I want to get each a gift for being so kind to let me stay with them during my travels. But what?

What have been the favorite gifts you've received or given?

All I can think of is- gift card. But I don't know where they like to shop so I really don't want to do that. Help a sister out, please!

What can I do next?

Bring them something that the state you live in is famous for. Like Virginia is famous for peanuts and ham...seafood sauces...etc. That's all I can think of.

If you want to do a gift card, you can give an Amazon card so they can use it universally.

You can, also, arrive w/a bouquet of flowers, bottle of wine & a nice box of chocolates.

Be a gracious guest: clean up after yourself, make the bed, ask how you can be of help (for ex., help w/dinner etc.).

When you get back home, send a nice thank you note.

Have a fun trip!

A gift certificate to a local, nice restaurant would be nice

All great suggestions. I love bath items. Especially ones with sugar/salt/coconut oil. I found this while travelling through GA and SC:

My hands felt so soft. They had it in the restrooms around town.
It's amazing - we used the coconut scent. I've seen some pinterest recipes but haven't tried them yet.

I also always bring flowers or a potted plant that they can keep longer.

My favorite hostess gift that is easy to travel with and coordinates with any decorating style is a set of lucite coasters that you insert drink napkins into for color. I have several sets for my own home, they are fun because the napkins can change for any party theme, holiday or room style. A set of four coasters with a holder only runs about $15, I have found them at several gift stores.

We visited a friend in Billings Montana for a week a while back. Once we got there we found they were getting low on family games. The kids were getting older and so many of their games were for younger kids.

So we bought a few games they could enjoy together for FHE like the Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, some version of Monopoly or something. We spent about $100 on games.

Sent you a private message about more that we did.

I think it is nice when we leave and the home and family are better than when we came. No messes left, no stressful arguments with the kids, washing walls in the kids bathroom, scrubbing the bathrooms until the shine, etc...sometimes just taking a few minutes to make something sparkle.

We all do that anyway but consciously looking for that opportunity may slip to the rear of our mind if we aren't thinking about it all the time.

See their homes first and then send dish towels that match their kitchen. A food basket and nice note will work too.

I like to wait until I visit so that I can see what they need or would enjoy. After one visit to their beach house, I gave my cousin a set of towels because her's were so ratty. lol She liked them so well she took them to her full time home.
