Clothing Repair
I have a 5 y/o daughter who manages to put holes in every pair of jeans she wears! I swear she must crawl around school all day. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use as a patch. I've tried the iron on ones and they come off with the first washing.

P.,
I've found that the only way iron on patches saty is if you stich the edges. I tend to sew all my 8 year-old daughter's patches on or I use Aleene's OK To Wash-It premanent fabric bond. Just fallow the the instructions on the bottle. You can usually find it in the same area as the patches. I just get mine at JoAnn Fabric and Cloth Store.
I hope this helps you.

I keep hearing about Sears' wear out before you outgrow and they will replace it. I would check out your local store for all the specifics

Oh hun, I feel your pain!! I keep asking both my kids what they do to blow the knees out in their jeans! I go get denim patches. You can get them anywhere. Then I cut out fun shapes and iron them over the holes. Granted they don't hold a super long time, but they get more wear at least out of the jeans for a while longer. If you are good at sewing, go get cute material that would match her tops and sew on patches. My daughter loves it when I do the denim ones and put hearts or butterflies on her knees.

Have you heard of Sears Kidvantage program? What it is, if you haven't heard of it, is once you sign on to their program (it's free), you can bring back the clothes you bought from them, and exchange it for free, as long as it's in the same size. So, if your daughter puts holes, or rips, or whatever in the clothes you buy from Sears, take it back to them and get new ones for free!! I love it!! I have a 6 year-old son that does the same thing, so this is great and saves us money!!

When my kids were younger I took them to Sears because they have some sort of "jean deal" . If the jeans get ruined in any way they will give you a new pair (switch them out). I'm not sure if Sears still does that, but it's worth looking into :)

Ok, there is this stuff called "007 Bonding Agent", they have it at Jo-Ann. It has a goofy picture of a spy with an iron on it. It is bonding powder. Get this and some heavy fabric (like, more denim or canvas or whatever) to make your own patches. They stay on really well.

Hello!
Two things come to my mind:
- when using the iron on patch, also sew around it with a zig-zag or satin stich. That should stop them from coming off in the wash.
- skip the store bought iron ons, but get a pair of jeans at the thrift store and use it to make your own patches. You can still also make them iron on with Wonder Under or similar product from the fabric store or again skip that and just sew it on. I would propably make the patch rather large and go across the entire width of the leg and 2 inches or so above and below it.
Hope this helps!

Glad Im not the only mom going thru this... my almost 5 yr old boy has holes in at least 1 knee on every pair of pants... this is why I now only buy him walmart jeans because they are cheap to replace!
