Clothing for Heavy Child

I saw B.G.s question and I have a similar problem that someone may be able to help me with. My daughter is 8 and she weighs 95 pounds. She is short and has a very large belly. Old Navy, JC Penny, Lands End etc. do not carry clothing that fits my child. Their largest sized shirts are very tight around her tummy and hang to her mid thigh. She wants cool clothes like her classmates wear and I am miserable and desperate when shopping for her. Can anyone please tell me where I can get her some cool clothes?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you for your input to my dilema. I am not offended. We walk to and from school everyday. I do allow treats in small amounts. She does not like any dairy products, meat, breads, cereals, vegies or fruits. Her diet consist of chicken or chicken nuggets, ramen noodles, corn on the cob, fries or tots, plain shredded lettuce and treats. Yes, I know, it is not a very broad diet. I have 4 children and she is my only picky eater and she is also my only short, heavy child. The other three are very tall and slim. Thanks for the suggestions.

I really do not know where you could find what you're looking for, except maybe online. However, I would recommend something that I hope does not offend you. Please look at your daughter's diet, exercise level, etc. & make sure you are doing everything you can to help her be healthy. You have one issue in that you cannot find clothing to fit your daughter. Yet you have a bigger issue in that your 8 yr. old daughter is on the slippery slope to becoming a very overweight adult. Again, please don't take offense...

My kids are still in the toddler section of Target, and I know they have adjustable elastic bands around the tummy in that section. Not sure if they do in the kid section though. I know JC Penny has a plus size section, but I am guessing the length might be an issue. I wish I could be more helpful! Are you a decent sewer? A hem is pretty easy to do.

Hi C.,
I too was a bit overweight as a child so I can emphathize. You are a great momma for trying to find cool clothes for her. i am no longer an expert on the topic, but would you consider shopping in a teen section at a larger dept. store. If I remember correctly, dept stores have so many depts and so many sizes, you may have luck there.

I wish you luck.
