Clothes Shopping in Dec. or Jan

I used to relish january sales for clothes, but have been very disappointed in the last few years. The Jan. sales just weren't that great. Have the great clothing sales transitioned to Dec.? Has anyone noticed this? I feel like I have noticed this trend. Anyways, my kids are in a gymnastics camp today and I really need to use the time to spruce up my wardrobe. I don't want to brave the mall, but these opportunities away from my kids happen very rarely. thanks.

So What Happened?

Everyone got off at noon today to shop I"m pretty sure. I had to put things on hold, pick up my kids, and make purchases with 3 in tow. Macy sales were just okay. J. Crew was 50% off already marked down merchandise. I scored there. My usual story these days is that I purchase in such a mad rush, I end up hating half of what I buy. I miss long methodical shopping days. sigh.

I enjoy visiting Kohls and Old Navy. We get coupons in the mail for 15-30% off and I go hit the clearance racks. I've gotten cute tops for $3. Dresses for $10. Shorts and pants for about $10. It's helpful if you maintain a consistent weight and choose classic styles. That way, even if it's for next season, it'll still fit and be "in."

I am another for Kohls and Old Navy. We try to hold off for the 30% off coupons for Kohls though. Old Navy normally has decent prices and they offer a military discount as well...so that helps.

Right now they have amazing prices on things...if you're brave enough to venture out!

I love after Christmas sales on clothes!
Heck, I've seen stuff at Macy's already marked down to next to nothing.
I have not noticed the trend you mentioned.

I'm having a crisis of faith...I used to love bargain shopping...I am a fashion is ta by no means....but now when I see sales racks I think..this stuff is awful there is a reason No one bought it....but I can't afford the stuff I do like..and I'm not sure I could pay huge amounts even if I had all the money in the world. ..sigh...someday I'll look into a personal shopper.

I have also noticed that the sales aren't what they used to be. It seems everything is picked over by Dec/Jan and this didn't used to the case. I'm not sure if it's because retailers are just not buying as much for the stores?
Now, I generally go straight to online shopping for the best deals. I find things throughout the fall or spring that I like, try them on, take a pic of the tag with my phone, and then wait for the online clearance. This seems to work for me.

I don't really keep up with the sale trend.

I shop a lot at White House Black Market and I have a friend who works there. They have had some great sales lately because she calls me ahead of time so I can come in. I believe I saw today that dresses were 50% off. I've bought a lot there and each time I buy, I have some sort of deal with my membership. Last week I stopped in for the sale she was telling me about. I got a white blingy sweater priced at $98 and a top priced at $59 both for $90 total. I had no coupon, etc, it was a 30% off day.

If you have favorite stores, watch them to get their sale trends and if you can, get a sales associate to let you know when they will have the best markdowns.

Yesterday I was out shopping and huge clothing sales were going on at Neimans, Nordstrom, Macy's and Dillard's as well as the smaller boutiques.

Good luck shopping today!!! It was beautiful here yesterday with sunshine and 70, today is rainy and cold. Typical TX weather, changes are extreme day to day. It is supposed to be sunshine and 70 again on Christmas day!

Merry Christmas!
