Cloth Training Underwear

My son is 3 and big/tall (45lbs). We have been working on potty training. Does anyone recommend any type of training pant for his size? We use pull-ups, but I would like to use cloth while at home since my daughter is in cloth diapers anyway. I don't want to put a plastic liner on him - I want super thick underwear that area designed to look/feel like big boy underwear, but can catch the accidents without leaking on the floor (I'm not worried about if his shorts get wet). If they came in a boxer-brief version, it would be even better because they would be like daddy's underwear. I've found a few places that carry them through catalog, but at $12 a pair I would prefer a recommendation before making a purchase that I probably won't be able to return.

Thanks for the help so far everyone... I need at least a 4T-5T, which I haven't seen anywhere yet. Someone suggested Sears/Babies R Us earlier (I haven't look there yet). I have had no problem finding 2T-3T, but Owen is just too big.

I used Gerber training pants. They are cloth with a thick middle to allow them to get the feeling of being wet but absorb as much as possible, sometimes it would go down the leg and get the floor wet. I found them at Wal-mart and Target in the sections of Gerber clothing. I think they came in a pack of 2 or 3 for about $8-9. Hope that helps. Good Luck.

I used the Gerber underwear for my 1st girl with plastic pants over them and used the Kushies brand that I found at Wal-mart on-line that were thick underwear with a nylon outer covering for my second daughter which I liked a lot better. I liked the Kushies because they breathed better than the plastic pants and that there was only 1 pair of underwear for her to pull on and off.

PS we used the Potty Watch with our second girl and loved it.

Good luck,
M.

I actually saw some at Target over the weekend. They were Gerber brand, they had plain white, and boy/girl designs. I'm pretty sure I saw a 3T size. I believe they were about $5.99 for a package of 3.

I haven't tried them out yet, but have been browsing around for this sort of thing for our daughter. I'd love to know what you find and how it ends up working.

I agree the Gerber ones are the best ones I have found as well. We did the cloth training. I have found them at Burlington Coat Factory - they have the best selection etc...

My son had a hard time potty training his pediatrician told me to use regular underware and it worked it was messy at first but he didn't like the feeling of it running down his legs haha.It definatley worked Good Luck

I found the thick underware for my youngest at Target. I don't remember the size they went up to, but they were the ones without the plastic. Depending on how much your son pees & how fast to weather they will keep it from running down his legs. My youngest got to the point that he would hold his pee for so long & pee so fast that no diaper or pull up could hold it, so we potty trained him. The only training underware that I know of that come in boxer shape are the Goodnights disposible underware.
The problem we came across when training my youngest was that he was used to the warmth of a diaper & regular underware are so thin that he would not wear them. After a week of plain white thick underware he decided that the regular thin underware were worth the cold just so he could have underware like his big brother.

God bless!

Have you looked into Baby Care Diaper Service? I want to say they carry cloth training pants...

Good Morning S., He is a big boy Awesome. Corbin is 4 and right up there with him. I looked all over for the cloth training pants too, I had used them on our sons way back when. I only found like one package of 6 at Wally World, they weren't anything special just the normal padded front. I sure wouldn't spend 12.00 on One pr. though.
These weren't that absorbent anyway so I just started getting reg big boy underwear. Took him to the bathroom every couple of hours. We had some accidents to start but made it through just fine.

God Bless hope you can find what works best for you
