Might be the disposables. I use only disposables but if I switch brands, or use a generic bam a diaper rash.

Are you changing her often enough? Cloth diapers should be changed about every 2 hours. I know if my oldest goes much longer than that (I use Happy Heineys on him) he tends to get a little red. Or, like someone else suggested, it could be a diet change or teething. Since you're already using a liner you can use diaper rash cream with the cloth (without a liner the cream will stain, though). We have the best luck with Butt Paste. Have you thought about using cloth liners? Ours are hemp and I love them. You can use pretty much anything. I've cut up receiving blankets to use or an old sweatshirt.

Could be teething, or something in her pee since you're breastfeeding, a diet change of yours causing it. I use BG 2.0 and don't recall - the 3.0 keeps the wet away from the skin, does it? I had problems with rash with my second child (did prefolds w/the first) so went to only pocket diapers to keep the wet away from her sensitive skin.

Good luck!

My boys BOTH had issues with the liners. Go without the liners and see how that works. Also the disposables are probably the culprit too. I used the liners or a disposable when we were out for af ull day and sure enough they'd have red bums the next day.

Be careful with the diaper rash cream it will stain the cloth diapers and make that spot where the stain is non-absorbant.

Vitamin E Oil applied to the rash will soothe and heal the skin. The higher the I.U., the better. 'Jason' brand (in the natural section of grocery stores) has a 32,000 I.U.

You've already got a lot of good ideas, but here are a couple of other things to consider. My baby is allergic to elastic, and seems to be sensitive to many disposable diapers. For disposables, we only use 7th Generation Chlorine-Free. For cloth diapers (and everything else!), we can only use unscented detergent (Arm & Hammer Sensitive Skin). Also, our baby immediately had bad rashes when we fed her mango, kiwi, and started her on diluted apple juice. Each one, given to her individually over the course of months, caused a bad rash in her diaper area. Hopefully this triggers an idea for you of what could be affecting your little one. Good luck!

Like you, we do a lot of switching between cloth and disposable. Our regular routine is cloth during the day and disposable at night. We also use disposable if going out or gone for a weekend/week etc. I too have noticed that if she is in disposables for a week, then switch back to our normal routine she tends to get a rash. I guess I've never worried too much about it - just use the diaper rash cream and it goes away and we're back into our normal routine.

It very well might be the disposables. My first daughter had bleeding rashes ALL the time for the first year of her life, until we figured out that she was allergic to the chemicals in disposables. We switched to cloth and she never had another rash. My second daughter started out in cloth, obviously, which we used full time. The only rash she ever got in the two years she was in diapers was as a newborn, when I was using regular disposable wipes. I cut those out and switched to cloth wipes, and she never got another rash. That said, it could also be the liner. I don't know what's in those. Are they white? If they use dioxin to dye them, that could be the culprit. You could switch to a fleece liner and get a mini shower. Poop falls right off fleece, and the mini shower (a little spray gun that attaches to your toilet) will take care of anything else. We used Sugar Peas hemp diapers with fleece liners and Happy Heiny's pocket dipes, which are already fleece on the inside.

PPs have mostly covered it, but I wanted to suggest that some children are sensitive to the suedecloth inner on BGs. With the liners and disposables, that doesn't sound likely here, but it is a possibility. Also, most disposable liners keep moisture next to the skin, which defeats the purpose of the suedecloth inner. If you're looking to keep your diapers from staining (from poop or from diaper creams) try fleece instead. Another option for mild rashes is raw silk liners.

Diaper rash can be caused by many, many things, including diet. My son loves pineapple, but if he eats too much, he gets a diaper rash.

I don't know what you're using for wipes, but commercial wipes could also be the culprit.

Let your baby "air out" from time to time. I put a couple of thick bath towels in my son's playpen, and then let him play in there without a diaper or pants on. As far as diaper creams, we have had wonderful luck with Weleda's Calendula Diaper cream.

I would try everyone's suggestions. My girl had horrible diaper rash and then I found out she had allergies. It was bad and then it went away for a while b/c I changed diapers, changed her more frequently, etc. but eventually it came back. When I switched my diet (nursing) I never had a problem again. Again, this is less likely than the other suggestions but it can be a problem.

Yes I did...it was the liners. I know they are really nice but they gave my DD a rash too.

We use cloth diapers made my by my mom and prefolds. Every so often my son will get a yeast infection as all...that tells me I've gone to long without a really good hot wash cycle. How do you wash your diapers, if you're using detergent it could be a build up of that causing a problem or if you use drier sheets (even on your other loads of laundry) the build up in the dryer could get on the diapers. We use disposable at night b/c as soon as my son knows he is wet he wants changed (will be great for potty training) and so I just layer on a thick paste every night and that seems to keep his skin happy all the time. Good luck!
