Cloth Diapers - Newnan,GA
I was just wondering who uses cloth, who would like to use cloth, and who says, "I can't use cloth - all the folding and pins!" Trust me, cloth diapers are not what they used to be. I see problems with disposable diapers posted on here and try to post a reply like "what about cloth?" I was just wondering how you mamas felt! :)

So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone for letting everyone know how you feel about cloth - I think the trend is coming back - after all it is a lot cheaper and your children are usually potty trained faster! :)

J.,
I am interested in using cloth diapers but they seem expensive and a hassle. I used disposable ones with my older child and would like more information about using cloth. I know there is not the use of pins and what nots with cloth anymore but what about day care and the washing and emptying of the stool and do they leak and doesn't it stink up the washing machine? Thanks for the information and let me know what kind of services you offer as well!!

I have only used disposable diapers (my son is 2) but reading this question and everyone's answers has gotten me curious. I honestly never really considered doing cloth. But I am expecting my second child and am due in December. My son has suffered from really bad diaper rash all the time and it's a constant battle. I didn't realize that cloth would be better, I've just been looking forward to hopefully potty training soon. And the thought of cloth diapers being cheaper really intrigues me. I wouldn't even know how to begin though...what are the best? what supplies do you need? what do you do with dirty diapers when you are out and about? do you really just put dirty diapers in the washing machine? Do you have problems with them leaking and messes? I wouldn't mind doing a couple more loads of laundry a week if that was all it was. Could someone give me some advice on all this? Thanks!

I'm using cloth diapers for the second time with my second child and I'm a big advocate. I use disposables overnight and when I leave the house. But at home it's cloth and it has saved me a lot of money in the long run. I've tried Kiss-a-Luvs, Fuzzi Bunz, and Bum Genius. I would go with the Bum Genius because they now come in a one-size fits all. My little girl wore them until she was potty trained at 2 yrs. old. The "all-in-one" type is the best way to go. A real good website to find what's available and has real good prices is cottonbabies.com. It's a little messy when the poop is still liquid, but once it starts to solid you just dump and flush. We wash them in real hot water if there is poop on them. The number of diapers that seems to work for us is 12. It just depends how often you want to wash. Got any questions, just ask.

We tried to use cloth, but it really isn't very convenient and it can get messy. I prefer disposable diapers myself. They are convenient and its a much cleaner process. I've never had problems with diaper rash or really any other "hiney" related issues. I'm sure they work well for others, just not for us.

I use BumGenius 3.0's and they are great. When I use disposables my kids' bottoms seem to get irritated and red. When I think about all those chemicals and whether I would feel comfortable with them next to my private parts it helps to make the disposable decision for my kids. Also, cleaning them is not reall that big of a deal (although certainly a diaper service would be lovely, too bad i already invested in my BGs)!

Used cloth full time with my first child 6 years ago, mostly Fuzzi Bunz washed at home. Only used cloth part time with my second child because it was so hard to maintain with our busy schedule, but as soon as she was able to talk my youngest made sure I knew she liked the cloth diapers better but by then we were already potty training.

I use cloth, and I have for over four years now, since my son was born. I love them-- I use the plain, boring old-fashioned ones with the pins, but I also have a few pairs of the fancier velcro all-in-ones. My main reason for going cloth was money-- I'd heard arguments for and against cloth for environmental reasons, but honestly, spending less than $300, total, for all of the diapers I'd need for probably 6 years, was a huge motivator for me! I don't use a service, and I find that I do maybe two extra loads of laundry a week (small loads), which is not terribly time-consuming. And, one day not too long ago, we were traveling cross-country, so we'd purchased some disposables. I was trying to get one on my daughter and my husband laughed and pointed out that I am now faster at putting on a cloth diaper, pins and all, than I am at a disposable!

I was very interested in cloth diapers, but just did not know
where to begin. My husband was pretty against it. I bought a starter kit of little g diapers (hybrid), thinking I could start there and then move to cloth. I never put a single one on my
son, though. I found a brand of disposables called "Nature Babycare"'that are nontoxic and partially biodegradable. Since toxins on my child and trying to be environmentally responsible were my
main motivations, these fit the bill. I'd read too many arguments at that point about cloth being equally wasteful in different ways. Sigh. It's hard to know what to do! I am planning on trying the " G diapers" on the next doodlebug, though.
