My son is 15 months old and I just realized how easy cloth diapers are now! This whole time I thought they were all still the ones you had to pin and wear plastic covers with. Now my question is... what brand/styles do you like? I really like the idea of the BumGenius and other AIO one size types, but now I've realized that even the prefolds with a diaper cover seem easy. What have you found to be the most economical, leak proof, easy to use (especially for husbands that aren't so big on the idea). Another note, we are expecting baby #2 in oct which is why i really like the one size idea. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Thanks everyone for all of your help. We're going to take a cloth diaper class ASAP. I think I've got it narrowed down a little more though!

We've been using the same size prefolds and covers for about a year now with my 20 month old...so you don't really need too many sizes (but they grow out of the infant size fast!). I like indian prefolds - they are softer than chinese. The two cover brands I like are Thirsties - very light and trim, cute, and wonderwraps, which are bulkier but you can use them infant thru toddler with no leaks.

HTH!

We love the BumGenius one size. I just stuff them when they are out of the dryer and leave them next to the changing table so my husband can use them like a regular diaper. super easy. We also use the imse vimse diaper liners which makes poop disposal and clean up much easier as well.

It looks like you have a lot of responses but I wanted to share my experience with prefold, by far the cheapest and easiest to clean. We have found that wider diapers are much easier that the standard diaper service green & blue edge prefolds you can get ____@____.com
The snappi is the greatest invention ever! It is super easy and holds the diaper together wonderfully. We prefer the Bummis wraps, and totally suggest doing the newborn diapers and wraps, we just had a baby May 8th and they are great. I do suggest getting the newborn wraps on craigslist because the size is used for such a short time (I got a bunch for about 5 dollars each). You can also check out Childish Things in Boulder, they sell new and used cloth diapers.

My favorites are Thirsties. Thirsties have AIOs and Covers. I purchased all of my cloth diapers at babycottonbottoms.com. This site is run by a mom in Colorado Springs. She is AWESOME! She does a workshop every once in a while and will go over all of the different kinds of diapers out there. That was awesome since we had never done cloth diapers before. She covers how to wash them and other tips. I have been very pleased with the prefolds and Thirsties covers. I thought I would want all AIOs, but the prefolds are the cheapest and with the Thirsties covers I never have leaks. The AIOs are good, especially with hemp soakers inside.

Cloth diapers make potty training go much faster.... a big bonus for the whole family.

I am using the bummis whisper wraps with prefolds and a snappi, and I think they are pretty easy. I use a diaper service because I wanted a few months before washing my own after baby arrived. I don't think they are hard at all.... My sister uses fuzzibunz pocket diapers, and they are pretty convenient, but a bit pricey.

Good luck!

I use FuzziBunz and love them. not problems, no "blow outs" very little leaking (only after a long night sleeping). The "secret" I found in terms of cleaning them to super clean is to use OxyClean on them. I totally love cloth diapers and wouldn't trade it - I have never "run out" of diapers for example!! We just wash them and they are ready to go again. He has been using FuzziBunz for all of his 4+ months - we may have to get a new size at about a year old.

I would not recommend the cloth cover types that leak - like the wool ones or whatever. I also have used gDiapers and felt that they looked cute, and were less puffy, but they are more prone to leaking - you really have to stay on top of changing them all the time, and they are a bit on the small side - he outgrew them fast.

Good for you Mama!!!! I love AIOs and so does my husband. He never really "got" any of the pockets or All in Twos. It made for some funny moments but now he's very much on board with our AIOs. So are the grandparents.

I like the thirsties AIO because of the double leg gusset (keeps the extra in) and they are stuffable for night time. Also I love Green Acre designs AIO- they make a "tall" which actually has more leg room since my wee miss has chunky thighs (sigh, takes after me). The BEST place I've found to get information etc is diaperswappers.com. I buy MOST of my diapers used and sell them on there too. When they are growing so fast, each diaper doesn't stay around very long so this is a way to not break the bank (and help the planet). When I do the math, I've spent next to nothing on diapers. Also, it gives you a way to try out different designs. (I must admit though, I've stashed away a few of my favorites for my number two, keep your fingers crossed please) I've also had some success buying on Ebay and Craiglist from WAHMs - though none have been quite as good as the aforementioned.

Another great resource is Amy Man of Denver Diaper company in Westminster. She'll let you bring your baby by her house or one of her gatherings and let you try them on over a disposable. Finally, if you ever want to come over and see my stash, DO! I also have a bunch of small bum genious AIOs I'm planning to sell soon. Drop me a line.

We have used prefolds with Wonder Wraps one-size covers. Prefolds are the most economical way to go. I think any style of diaper would be the same in leak proof, assuming that the detergent isn't making them leaky or you've pre-washed unbleached prefolds enough. The nicest thing about cloth is no more blow-outs! Occasionally, the diaper will get too wet and leak out, but you solve that by changing more often or adding absorbency. The AIO are the most husband friendly. My husband is fine, though, with prefolds. We just do the twist fold, which is really simple.

I'm really excited about cloth diapers, too! Haven't used them much yet, but I did alot of research before buying. Two of my friends and my sis-in-law swear by Mother-ease; check out their website. I have changed several diapers on my nephew and they are very easy. I'm using them for night time with my second when she arrives. They are a little bulky on a newborn, but I feel they have worked beautifully throughout my nephew's life so far -- he is two now and they still fit great, no leaks. www.mother-ease.com

I really like the idea of AIOs, though, so I also purchased BumGenius organic all-in-ones (one size). I tested them on my 2.5 year old, and I love them! She is a heavy wetter, too, and no leaks! The BunGenius are expensive and take longer to dry, but just made the most sense to me. With the Mother-ease one size, you still have to purchase the various sizes of diaper covers, plus possibly some extra liners. So, BumGenius really doesn't cost that much more.

Good luck to you! With so many options out there, it can be confusing, but you'll be sure to find something you love and something sooooo easy!

We have been using the BumGenius on our 6 month old for a few months now and love them. I have both the AIO's and pocket. AIO's take a little longer to dry and don't come in one size. The BumGenius are my favorite because I have not ever had a leak with them. My husband will even use them. They are easy to use and easy to clean. I also like Fuzzi Bunz but they are not a 1 size. Have fun looking they are great to use and it can be very complicated to weed out what works best but if you have any more questions feel free to email me ____@____.com

I have to put in my vote for BumGenius pocket diapers. I have been using them on my 12 month old son since he was 2 weeks old (don't use them before the cord falls off). I LOVE that I have never had to buy a new size, so even though these might be a bit more, they are soooo worth it!

I didn't think that I would get my husband on board, but he took to them really well since he didn't have to mess with covers or snaps. The pockets are also great because I was able to use the newborn inserts when he was smaller, and double when he went through a heavy wetting period. The only leaks I have gotten are when daycare puts him in a jumper wet and his pants are all bunched up around his upper thighs - they will wick. But, if daycare doesn't put him in there wet, there are no issues.

My son also had some chunky thighs and there was never a fit issue. There is a learning curve to get them tight enough though, so if they leak at first, reevaluate how you put them on. :) Also, they are a tad bulkier than disposable, so for pants, you may have to go up a size, and the torso is a bit longer. Now that my son is older, it doesn't affect the clothing size as much.

I'm not a huge fan of one-size diapers. In my experience, they are far too bulky for a little baby and not absorbant enought for an older baby. I was only moderately impressed with BumGenius diapers, mainly because the velcro closures don't hold up in the wash as well as snaps do--but if you think your husband would prefer velcro closures for ease, that could be a good reason to have a few on hand.
I'm on my third cloth-diapered baby and I think overall, I like Fuzzi Bunz diapers with hemp or cotton inserts. I know some people think pocket diapers are one step too many, but I prefer them because they get really clean and then dry quickly. Plus, the fit is fairly trim and you can double-stuff them for mor absorbancy if needed overnight.
I also like wool covers over a fitted diaper (such as a Kissaluvs) at night. My husband calls my baby's wool covers his "bum sweaters." They are pretty cute and never leak overnight. Aristocrats and Disana are both great--spendy, yes, but they fit and last for a long time. Check out www.greenmountaindiapers.com for lots of choices and details that could be helpful to you. I've gotten excellent service from them.
Congrats on your growing family!

My husband and I decided to use cloth diapers for our second child due soon. I went through the different types with him to see what he was willing to deal with since he wasn't too excited by the idea and isn't perfect at diapering a baby. We both decided to do the AIO one size diapers from BumGenius because of they're so much like disposables and easy to use. They're the organic ones which are an added plus. Here's a link: http://www.cottonbabies.com/product_info.php?cPath=94&amp... We chose the snaps since I'd heard so much about the velcro snagging and wearing over time. They are definitely a pricier option compared to other cloth options, but still an economical/environmentally friendly option compared with disposables. We also love that we don't have to purchase different sizes or anything like that since we're new to cloth diapers and don't know what to expect yet. We plan on using these diapers for this child and possibly our third. All the reviews I've read about them are positive, so I'd recommend you check them out. Good luck!

Fuzzibunz!!! I used them with my first and she is nearly potty trained now. The diapers lasted so well, I'm using the same ones on my second child. They are soft and really leak proof and come clean in the wash without smells better than any other brand I tried. They also went over well with my husband because they are easy to use and not smelly.

Fuzzi bunz are awesome and they have a one size fits all version, that comes with a warranty on the adjustable straps for the sizing. They have the snaps instead of velcro, which gets fibers caught in it over time and is horrible to pick them out of. My husband and I plan on using these for our son.

Congrats on making the diaper switch! I hear great things about cloth diapers and plan on making the switch in the coming month when I run out of store bought diapers we got as gifts. Someone told me about denver diaper company. The website is http://denverdiaperco.com/category_22/Cloth-Diapers.php She uses hemp diapers. Some prefits and some regular prefolds. I am going to try the prefold with the hemp inserts I think. Hope you find the right ones for you. Also check out these links diaperpin.com and

Hi J.,
Like you, we've found diaper service quality prefolds to be pretty simple after you get over the learning curve. Can't beat the price, they're easy to take care of, and they WORK! My favorite covers in the "runny output" stage are Thirsties (with gussets), and once solids are introduced, Dappi Diaper Pants (so reasonable and they do the job well). We've been fine with just two sizes -- infant and regular, though might need to go up to toddler at some point. I'd be interested in having a few Bum Genius around, but haven't been able to justify the price.

I borrowed some from my sister in law to try them out and I loved the Very Baby ones for my little girl when she was about one month old. I think there was also a happy Heiny's and that was great. They fit her the best when she was really little. I have tried bumkins and bumgenius as well. Bumgenius AIOs are way better than the bumkins. They wash better, fit better, and hold in the moisture better. The bumkins hold in the poop okay but when she is really wet, and my daughter is a heavy wetter, she gets bothered and will even wake up from naps crying for a diaper change. I have also tried gdiapers and i love them. they fit her great, are very convienient, and she has had only one blow out in them ever. She has gotten the insdie of the diapers a bit soiled but it has only gotten on her clothes once. THey are a bit spendy but I get the refills on sale and they have a rewards program. I combine using cloth and gdiapers and it seems to be more economical. Good luck.
P.S. My husbands favorite diapers are the gdiapers.
I do really like the BUMgenius and the fact that they grow with her.
