Does anybody use cloth diapers? I am the only mom I know who doesn't use some sort of disposable diapers and sometimes I feel a lack of support. We use the Bumgenius Pocket Diapers and I love them. Just wondering how many moms there are like me...?

I also use the cloth wipes...Hey you are already doing poopy diaper laundry right?! :) Cheers!

Thanks Ladies...this is the very first time I have EVER posted in a forum and I think I love it. I have been at home now for almost a year after moving to Dallas from Las Vegas in early 2009. I had a hard time finding a job because I was pregnant. I am a Texas native, so it is great to be back here after living out of state for four years, but Dallas is new to me. All of my girfriends are in Austin. Before, I had a career and friends and a social life. Now, I am a full time mom and all my thoughts go to caring for the baby, husband, house, bills, dogs, groceries, what's for dinner... haha. I absolutely love it, but there's definitely a bit of isolation present. It sure does feel good to connect!!! Thanks :O)

We use BumGenius 3.0 and I know at least one other mom that does too. We are out there just hard to find! I know the feeling with lack of support. Sometimes I feel like people think I am crazy, but oh well! They are cheaper, better for babies bottoms, and much better for the environment so people should praise us rather then act like we are crazy in my opinion. :) Don't let it bother you too much.

I don't have babies right now, but I used cloth as much as I could with my children.

I have looked but they are hard to find these days.

That is awesome that you are using cloth, it really is better for baby and I think it helps potty training easier.

Not to mention, little babies in plastic pants are just too cute.

My kids are older now. My baby is 10 yo. I used cloth diapers for many reasons. My Aunt used them and her kids now have kids and they use them.
I was working for a Dr. when I had my boys. He was very concerned with the risk of using the plastic, because the heat and bacteria that can grow. He has been tracking prostrat cancer in young men and they are being dx at a much earlier age. He thinks it is because of many thing. Cloth diapers must be changed more oftan, so they are much better for both boys and girls. Good Luck! and keep up the good work!

I use cloth! I used only cloth with my daughter (first child). I used cloth about 50/50 with my son. I have all type of cloth: all in ones, pockets, fitteds, and prefolds. You are not alone :)

My daughter uses cloth and loves them. Hundreds of Mom's use cloth and cute colorful covers with embroidery on the bottoms, etc. She even made covers and has the snap machine. In the summer she hung the liners and cloth in the sun and loved it. Now her youngest is 2 and completely potty trained and even wears panties at night and nap time-yea!!!!! Good Luck!
She also made her own wipes from flannel and baby wash cloths and loved those also.

I used and will use cloth diapers. I love them and they save a lot of money over time. It's a little extra work but for me, the money in the bank is definitely worth it.
By the way, I don't just cloth diaper I use baby face cloths as wipes too and save the cost of buying wipes.

You're not alone! There are actually two diaper services in the metroplex, so that's lots of famies using cloth. You might check some of the baby boutiques around town that sell cloth diapers, sometimes they have classes and other resources for you.

I have a 7 1/2 month old and we are a bumgenius family. I love them. I do get funny looks or interesting comments when I tell people we use cloth but I really don't get what the big deal is. They are a little more work but not much. Check out the cloth diaper board on babycenter.com. There is a lot of cloth support there. If you have any questions or want to compare notes just let me know. I'm always up for a conversation with another mommy.

Hey there! I also cloth diaper! LOVE it! I'm the only one in my family and group of friends that uses cloth so I understand the lack of support. When they found out we use cloth they said "eww". Then I showed them some of the new modern cloth diapers in my stash, they were all impressed. :) My husband even started telling his friends about cloth diapering, that's always fun overhearing two grown men talking about cloth diapering!
I use several different brands (including bumgenius) and I even like prefolds now. I'm currently searching for a new night time diaper. That seems to be a challenge for most mamas I come into contact with.
Good connecting with you!

We use cloth and love it! There are a lot of cloth diaper using mamas. I'd suggest going to www.diaperswappers.com where you can join A LOT of other mom's who use diapers and trade, sell, and buy them. The forum is also a great place to talk about all things kids, and many moms there have a more "natural" perspective so you may find you identify with them. Connect with me on facebook too if you want! We have a few brands of diapers, but wear a lot of the same BG pockets! You may also want to check out www.apercots.com they custom print on those dipes and they are super cute!

it's so cool that so many use cloth! WAY TO GO!! I use cloth but am having problems with my second son using them so unfortunatly have been using 7th Gen sposies :( I don't know why they are leaking like crazy with him but not once with my 1st son. They have TOTALLY different body types so that's all I can come up with because I've tried everything to get them to not leak. I have Fuzzi Bunz and Bum Genius for the most part...

You may want to check out holisticmoms.org too. There is a Tarrant County chapter you can check out if interested.

I also use cloth and know very few people (in person!) who do. If you want support and are on Facebook, in Circle of Moms (one of the applications), there is a circle for Cloth Diapered Munchkins. I don't get in there often, but it has been really helpful when I've needed it. Also, I subscriber to several blogs about cloth diapering so I don't feel so alone in it. Also, you can find many diaper companies on Facebook and Twitter so at least you're hearing about cloth diapers! (If you happen to start following DiaperShops.com on Facebook, let me know! They're having a contest right now to try to get more followers.)

I used them with my babies. I used a diaper service for the first several months and then did them myself the rest of the time. I only took disposable diapers on outings. I felt they were more natural, it was cheaper, and feel so good that I was not part of the problem filling up landfills and polluting the earth. Not to mention, in the following years I had lots and lots of really soft rags to polish/dry my car with and clean glass and other surfaces without lint. :) Don't be embarrassed, you are doing a smart thing that is surely more healthy for your baby too!

I've been wanting to make the leap to cloth diapers for a long time, but with 4 little ones, i've been feeling overwhelmed, and nervous about adding this unknown into my daily routine (which is still not quite a routine). I've read tons about it, and even talked to moms (online) who do it.
Ok, THIS is the the part where I actually answer your question instead of rambling:)
Before I found this forum, the 1st mommy-type forum I belonged to was www.dfwareamoms.com, and it feels like most of the moms on there do cloth diapering. There is even a local expert there who owns a shop (also online) here in the dfw area.

I used cloth diapers with my daughter but we were in NY & the diaper services there was HORRENDOUS and we had to send out for our laundry (not washer/dryer in the apartment) so I stopped & switched to 7th generation. She's about to begin potty training so we're almost out of diapers but I will use cloth diapers for baby #2, whenever he/she is conceived/born.

I think it takes a little extra from mom to use cloth diapers & if you are doing it, keep it up! You are doing a great service not only for your baby but for the environment and THAT deserves a round of applause!

Well done mom ; )

Hi A.:
Good for you! It is a bit of extra work, but you and all the other moms out there are doing your part to NOT add thousands of extra pounds of diapers to the landfills! I used cloth for both our daughters. It saved us a lot of money over the years and as an added bonus - our daughters were toilet trained very quickly. I started sitting them down on the potty on their 2nd birthdays and because they FELT wet, they trained quickly. By 2 1/4 years, both were dry through the night too - so that is something that the Pull-Up parents might not think of!

Proud user of prefold cloth diapers with the Thirsties cover. I love love love cloth diapers - so easy and I feel great about not having the enormous amount of waste (landfill and money) that comes with disposables. The flushable liners are a must for poop though - not sure I could get by without those! :)

I haven't seen the new style cloth diapers but I used the prefold and Birdseye brand with my kds. I liked the fact that I could fold the diaper to fit the baby from newborn to toddler. The real trick is the washing of the diapers but that is not a hard step either. There was a disposal liner I purchased and used so that when the diaper was soiled I could pick it up and flush it away and the diaper was not stained. The only time I ever used the disposables was going to and from the nursery or on a trip.

The initial outlay is more but you do get to reap the benefits later with lots of dusting and polishing cloths. I ran across a couple of mine the other day that are 36 years old and still nice and soft.

Keep up the use of the diapers and the landfills will thank you.

Hi! I used cloth with both of my kids and love it so much, I opened up a shop 7 years ago. I made up my own pattern and started making them and selling them. Not a disposable diaper will touch a bottom of my baby.... not even the day they are born. :) Cloth rocks!

Becoming a stay at home mom was very hard, because I often felt isolated. I know what you mean. I worked in Dallas and was used to that sort of lifestyle. Then, I got laid off and got pregnant right after. That was almost 8 years ago! Now the idea of going back to work is sort of scary. lol
