Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor

My husband and I are both in our late 30's and have been married for nearly 4 years. We have unsuccessfully tried getting pregnant since we were married. We even went on Clomid for 6 rounds, to no avail. We have not really given up on the idea that we will get pregnant. While I am pretty overweight, I would still love to be able to have a baby. I am working out at a gym and trying to eat better.

One of my problems is that my periods are VERY irregular. Some cycles will be about 31 days, when others will be 6-8 weeks! I just went over 6 weeks with this last one, so it is very hard to know when I'm ovulating. I do check my fluids, but I don't do the BBT.

My question is this: Has anyone used the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor with success? After just hearing about it 2 weeks ago, we are excited to give it a try. We have purchased one and are waiting for it to arrive. We read some wonderful reviews on it, but I wonder if any of you have your own opinion. Should we go on Clomid again to do it? The last time we used the Clomid was 2 years ago.

I appreciate any input you might be able to give.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you all for your advice. Yes, I have a thyroid problem too...hypothyroidism. I have thought about an acupuncturist. I have also thought about getting those detox pads for your feet, to see if that will help with anything...including the weight loss.

I will do some research on the things you all have told me, and we'll see what happens. I will let you know.

I used Clearblue Easy and many other fertility monitors, all to no avail. And my periods have been fairly regular all my life (ocassional variation btwn 27-29 days). It wasn;t a failure of the fertility monitors - I was ovulating, but still did not get pregnant. My husband and I tried to get pregnant for 6 years. I tried Clomid too. I'm now 41 and pregnant (13 weeks).

I'm about to get on my soap box, so everyone take all of this with a grain of salt. But anyone who has tried to get pregnant for years and then finds a path to that goal should be allowed to shout it from the rooftops! ;-)

I read an article in Elle magazine (Nov or Dec 07 issue?) about a team of fertility doctors whose advice is: to get pregnant, act like you are pregnant. No soda, no caffeine, no alcohol, fresh pure foods, not processed quick foods, stress reduction etc. I guess that's what I did, before I read the article.

There is no one solution for everyone. But I honestly think that I was able to get pregnant because of a change in my diet and the addition of some targeted supplements.

This was not an attempt to lose wieght, but a change in my total approach to what my body can handle and what it can't (which for me is no wheat whatsoever, no white rice, low sugar/alcohol/sodas (esp. diet soda), no coffee - even decaf - and stress reduction. I lost 'weight', which was really years of inflammation produced by wheat, sugar, toxins and stress. Got rid of yeast in my body, and eliminated high fructose corn syrup from my life (it's in everything, even ketchup!). Low-fat food is the enemy, it's often all sugar on one form or another, light excersize. Getting inflammation down is the key, and everyone has a different kind.

On the supplement side, I benefited from an HPA profile test provided by my acupuncturist (spit and urine tests sent to Sanesco labs). Turns out I had almost no serotonin, and my adrenals were shot after a lifetime of stress. Apparently when your endocrine system isn't functioning, sleeplessness, depression, infertility and increased stress result. So I was prescribed specific labratory supplements to boost my body's ability to produce it's own serotonin, which also helped the adrenal function. (ever have someone suggest thyroid problems as a source of infertility? apparently it's often the adrenals that are the root of the thyroid issues)

I took the change in diet very seriously, and took the serotonin-precursor supplements religiously on schedule, with a prenatal vitamin and Omega Twin. Boom, three months later I got pregnant without even thinking about it.

So ask your doctor or acupuncturist for tests to check your adrenal hormones (cortisol/DHEAs) and inhibitory neurotransmitters (serotonin/GABA). The test may reveal an underlying lack of these crucial regulatory hormones. Treat your body with love and care. And keep using the fertility monitor tests, they do help you know when you're ovulating.

I wish you good luck and great success, because I know how hard it is! This is your time to really think about yourself and the life that you and your partner want to create. Enjoy it!

Some foods can be natural contraceptives, including soy and green peas (please don't take my word for it - research for info). There are foods and herb teas and herbal combinations that can help with male and female systems. I think there is even one tea call Conception! I never needed conception supporting herbs, but have seen simple things like Red Raspberry tea help with female mustaches, irregular menstrual periods, etc in others.

I got pregnant the first month with the Clearblue Fertility Monitor after trying for nearly 2 years. My periods are very irregular also, so I had to use alot of sticks, but the monitor keeps asking you until it detects ovulation (day 23 in my case). I highly recommend it and am keeping mine around for #2!

I had a friend who was having a real problem getting pregnant and I told her to use this product called Isagenix. She still did the clomed treatments and with the 1st try amd got pregnant. She wasn't getting pregnant befor she used the product. now she is is pregnant again! the web site to order from is www.leanandclean.isagenix.com If you have any Questions feel free to ask! I too have used this product and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, IT! This should help. Good luck!

you should think about acupuncture. it's very effective at regulating cycles and also with fertility help. i know a great acupuncturist in alameda, but if that's too far for you, i'm sure you can get some recommendations of one closer. :)

Hi A. -
I have been there!!! and suddenly, we discovered we were pregnant!! that was a few years ago, and it happened to happen after I had a VERY heavy period - just goes in hand with ovulation. I know how difficult weight loss can be - I have been there! once weighing way over 300 pounds! But that is probably your key to balancing your hormones. In Gilroy there is a health club called "Healthy Inspirations" - I am not afiliated, nor a sales person - but I do know it gives people a very balanced food guideline, and fitness plan, with daily check-in - so it is hard o slip up - and I have met the ladies who work there - they are "real People" with weight issues like you and me. Look them up and give them a call - not the cheapest program but still cheaper than a gym membership and a weekly weight watchers meeting - and this is daily support. Good luck! and I'll add you to my prayers

Did you try progestrin ?

We used the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor for about two years with no success. We tried clomid a few times too. The last time, we used it for three months and I was so frustrated with the hot flashes and with the fertility monitor that we used nothing the fourth month and I got pregnant(at 38).

We have been trying again but are not using the fertility monitor. I'm older, so age is the problem for us, but as far as the fertility monitor, it can get to be very stressful if you have no success. You feel like you have to "hit it" right
away when you're ovulating, and when work or sickness or a fight or other problems get in your way, it's very frustrating.

One good thing about the monitor is that I learned what day of my cycle I typically ovulated, but my cycles are very regular.

Good luck to you guys!
