Cleaning Grout
Ladies,
I grew up with tiled floor with no grout. I live in my first home. How do you keep the grout clean in your kitchen. Please don't say it involves scrubbing on my hands and knees. Particularly behind my stove and refrigerator I can't get the floor clean. I have build up in my dark grout as well. Suggestions anyone

Hoover Floor Mate Spin and Scrub...lol. I can't handle getting on my hands and knees anymore. I use bleach and a mop once in a while, then the rest of the time it's my Hoover baby. Quick, easy, scrubbed, and dried all in just a few minutes! Good on my wood floors too.

Make sure that you have a good sealant on the floor. It sounds like it might be time to reseal them... easy to do, just buy the stuff at home depot. However, you will need them good and clean before you seal them. I did mine on hands and knees with a cleaner that I bought at home depot... next time I will call a cleaning company.

My husband just did our kitchen floor. He used Fantastic with Bleach on his hands and knees with a scrub brush. Or you can also try Bleach and water spray it on the the grout and than let it sit and than mop. But the first suggestion works better.

Carpet cleaning companies will usually do grout cleanings. Maybe you could do a major clean every so often with them and then just have to run a mop over it the rest of the time.

I guess I would say how clean do you want it? You can skim over it with a mop and it will probably not get worse, or you can get down there and do some old-fashioned cleaning and it will get cleaner. It's all relative to the effort you want to put in. That said, I have a steamer with little brush attachments that really get my bathroom (white) grout clean...but it takes a little longer than just a once over with a Swiffer. Up to you...

In a pump bottle mix together some vodka (doesn't matter what kind), water (I use distilled or purified) and baking soda. You can also add vinegar to the mixture, it'll foam a bit though so make sure the bottle isn't full when you do. I don't measure anything but I do add more water than anything else. I also add essential oils but they are expensive. Antibacterial oils are Lemon, Lavender, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree. I add em all! The baking soda is what should really make the grout sparkle. The first time you may have to scrub but after that just spray weekly.

Hire someone to clean it, then it has too be sealed. Otherwise it stays porous. Needs to be re-done every so often. Not sure how often.
