Cleaning Dishwasher
Hello everyone, I have two children so needless to say my dishwasher gets alot of use. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to clean one?

I fill a bowl with vinegar (about 1 or 2 cups) and place it on the bottom rack. Then I run the dishwasher empty or with glasses on the top rack. It cleans the dishwasher, isn't harmful and will remove any calcium or other hard water build-up. The stuff has amazing cleaning power if you can get past the smell.

Hi M. -
I think it is Jet Dry that makes a dishwasher cleaner. YOU put it in the silverware basket then run the dishwasher empty with the bottle of cleaner. I have used this on numerous occasions and it works pretty well. Hard to find the dishwasher empty though to actually get in the cleaning time!

There is a new product out made by jet spray and you put it in your dish washer and it makes it sparkle clean. Look at your local stores in the cleaning products near the dish washing detergents.

We used Lemon Shine to clean our dishwasher and get deposits off glasses. The nice thing is that you can do it during a normal load of dishes.

yes a good book to get is from: Joey Green’s Fix-it Magic 2008
some of their suggestions:
Dishwasher:
To clean pipes and tubes .fill detergent cup with countrytyme lemonade run normal cycle.
Drains:
Once a week pour coca cola down drain. Dissolves grease buildup
I got the book at the library.

I dont know if this will work or is even recoomended my the manufacturer but what about running an empty cycle with bleach and/or baking soda? I use baking soda to get all kinds of odors out of all kinds of stuff. I like bleach because, well, its bleach and I feel it is clean when its done. Obviously run an emply load (or 2) after just to make sure the residue is off. This would probably work on the washer machine too!

Believe it or not, dry lemonade mix (like countrytime) in the dishwasher liguid container. NO dishes of course and let the machine run like normal, is what I understand is effective. I did try it and it seems to work!

Well, I use a gallon of vinegar in an empty dishwasher and run it through a cycle every 3 months. THat gets rid of hard water build up. YOu should also clean your strainer, read your owners manual to find out how. Then wash down the edges and the seal with soap and water or an all purpose cleaner.

This may sound silly , but it works, put a few drops of dish liquid in the detergent cup, and afew drops of bleach in with it. Only use a few drops of liquid soap, or you'll have a sudsy mess in your floor. Put it on heavey , and let it run through, you'll be pleasently surprised at how clean it turns out.
