I would like to know if anyone knows how to clean cutting boards. Some of the cutting boards that we have become stained and I try scrubbing and scrubbing with soap and hot water...but..not that effective. Anyone know any tricks?

What can I do next?

I use my scunci steamer to clean mine...you would not believe the stuff that comes out of them...

If it is wood, salt the board, cut a lemon in half and scrub the salt in with the lemon. When done, rinse with hot water. That's the best way to clean a wood one. The plastic ones I suppose you could use a bleach solution then put through the dishwasher.

Hi Cel,
I would not recommend put wood utensils or cutting boards in the dishwasher. Wood is pourous and the heat is terrible for it.
I asked my husband (a carpenter) and the best way to get all stains it to sand it down and then oil it down again. That's really the only way to get deep stains out, but you really need an electric sander (you can get a mini hand sander for like $20 at Home Depot).
(I know you didn't ask this part, but it may be helpful): Keeping your wood oiled with mineral oil is the best way to prevent stains. You can wash it then let it dry, at night before bed put a thick coat of mineral oil on it and let it set all night. Then in the morning just wipe it down with hot water.
But as an avid cook, I think stains are like badges of honor in the kitchen (hee hee). Just remember that wood is pourous, so any cleaner or food it will absorb. Vinegar may work. You can try lemon juice and baking soda - baking soda helps whiten things.
Good luck.

I put the ones that fit in the dishwasher ... and the ones that don't I bleach now and then.

a vinegar solution works great.

Hi tired mom of three.

The cheapest, easiest thing for cutting boards that I know of is bleach water. I think bleach kills just about everything and it's easy...
