I am in search of a classic trench coat and a crisp classic fitted white dress shirt. Best places for stuff like that with the best price? Banana Republic? A trench on there is about $200. I assume that is an average price, but I haven't purchased a trench in about 4 years. Mine is about to die!
Check Lands' End right now. Trench coats should be on clearance as summer merchandise takes over. Macy's is another good place to check. I got a nice London Fog trench there years ago on clearance for $50. You're timing it perfectly to find a coat.
As far as the shirt, also look at Lands' End. They make a really great wrinkle-free version. I have it in another color and it always looks great right out of the dryer.
Check some of your second hand stores. Good will,etc...
Brooks Brothers outlets are good places for both. I just got a lovely white dress shirt there and it was on sale for $30 or something. And I know I saw some trenches in their clearance section.
Check out myhabit.com. It's like Overstock.com for high end products. Right now they have some cool Elie Tahari jackets. I don't think they're exactly what you're looking for but they might work. This site has new deals from different designers/companies every day, but only in limited quantities. So if you find something you like, buy it right away. It probably won't be available the next day.
