Cigarette Smoke Out of Clothes

I am not a smoker, but I live with one. He smokes outside only, but the smell is still in the house. We share a closet and sometimes he hangs his clothes up with the smoke smell still on them. Does anyone know how I can keep the smoke smell from taking over my apartment and closer? Would an air purifier work?

What can I do next?

have him wear a smoking jacket so the smoke doesnt get on his clothes. The only thing I can think of is to spray him down with febreeze.

A smoking jacket or something like it is not a bad idea. Have several and wash them frequently. Don't let him hang them in your closet.

My husband and I went to Spain a few years back where EVERYONE smoked in bars. we'd hang our clothing out overnight and in the morning, they smelled fresh, like they'd been washed.

Alpine air purifiers take ALL of the smells out of things, including skunk, by using ions....rather than spraying something like Febreeze to cover it up.

Maybe he could try to quit smoking - I know, easier said than done :) One night, when my husband and I began dating, he told me he wouldn't kiss me when I smoked. I stopped that night!

If you have a balcony, you can hang them out there - the fresh air will release the smoke - that always worked for me. If not, I have no idea b/c febreeze is just a cover up and an purifier is for the air not fabric. I do like the idea of a smoking jacket!

get him a flannel shirt or jacket that he can smoke in and have a hook in the garage or back porch, whatever, that he can hang it up on before he comes in.
Also, charcoal briquettes are amazing at absorbing moisture and odors. Place a few in a bowl at the bottom of your closet.

He hangs his OWN clothes up?! Sounds like the dream SO!!

Yes, I believe an air purifier in your closet, or aimed at the closet with the door open would help.

Air purifier may help but it won't take it out completely. Once the clothes have the smell on them, wash them before they are hung in the closet. While they are still one him, you are stuck w/ the smell. Yuck!

My sister uses sliced apples in her drawers to remove odors. A used furniture store told her about it. She inherited some furniture from my mom and it stank. I didn't even want a single piece of it in my house, ewwwwweeee. Anyway, she put apple slices in the drawers and left them and the smell was going within a few days. Maybe this would work for you in your closet.

I had this problem after I moved out of my parents house. They smoked and everything I had stunk. What I learned moving in and out of the dorm was to buy a box of Arm and hammer dryer sheets and open all the suitcases and then leave for a couple of hours and the stink was gone.

The smoke is in the fibers of the clothing. No an air purrifier will not work.

He needs to smoke outside away from the house where the smoke can not drift in the doors and windows and change his cloths when he enters the house. The smoke on his cloths is transferred to the other fabrics in your home.
