Any place loud, colorful and busy, such as...
Chevy's, Chili's, Red Robin, Cheesecake Factory, Old Spaghetti Factory, Elephant Bar, Rain Forest Cafe, etc.
I always especially enjoyed Chevy's when my kids were small because they could watch the guy baking tortillas and he would always give them a small piece of dough to play with :)
Fun for kids + margaritas = one happy family!
p.s. I hate chuck e cheese too :(

we use the Incredible Pizza Factory....love it for all ages!

Dave & Buster's is popular with the older kids....probably not toddlers, tho'.

& museums/zoos/parks are excellent choices too...even for little ones.

C&O on Washington in Venice. It's loud, a fun outdoor seating, and who doesn't like pasta and killer garlic rolls?

Red Robin tends to have cartoons on some of the TVs some video games near the entrance and endless fries! My son likes it.

My boys have always loved Asian restaurants. I have a two year old now and he loves any place with chopsticks, noodles, fortune cookies, pots of tea -lots of fun and interesting things there! Japanese places with the chef chopping and stir frying and putting on a show are a big hit, and Korean with the amazing array of pickled dishes that come out and if they have the BBQs in the middle of the table keep them mesmerized!

If they have a Rain forest Cafe in a location near you, that place is really neat!
We improvise though, if we want to go someplace that is not exactly child friendly we just pack accordingly ( snacks, treats, coloring book crayons) usually can get through a meal with no major issues.

Mc D's or Chick Fil A, I personally hate Mc D's so I would go to Chick Fil A

Sadly Chuck E Cheese changed from their really YUMMY pizza to a new recipe which I don't like at all now either... we still go tho. The atmosphere and fun my child has supersedes a crusty crust and hard bottom pastry of the pizza.

Hello, We are in San Diego County. I don't know if you have them there in L.A., but Peter Piper is pretty good.
