Chronic Strep Throat

My 10 month old son has been fighting strep since March. We have been to our dr. many times and have been given 4 different meds. The doctor says he is a carrier and there isn't much we can do but I don't know what to do. I do not feel comfortable leaving him with this diagnosis. HELP PLEASE

What can I do next?

That seems very young for strep. I would find another pediatrician or an ENT and get a 2nd opinion. My daughter (at 4 1/2) was diagnosed as a carrier last year. We had her tonsils removed and have not had a problem since, I don't believe they will remove them until they are 3yrs old though. Good luck!

It's true.

A great resource to have to get your kids through these early years without overmedicating them with antibiotics. Easy to understand. Tells which antibiotics to try first. Every chapter ends with a summary -- quick reference when your kid wakes up at 2 am with a fever.

My child has not had strep throat, but my sister growing up always seemed to get it.. she eventually had to have her tonsils removed, and I don't think she's ever had it since!! also... it might not hurt to try another doctor, if you are comfortable with seeking another opinion.
Strep throat HAS to be treated, you just can't live with it, and it isn't something that will just go away on it's own.
Hope the little guy gets better soon!

I don't have an answer for you but I have a pediatrician that solved several "mysteries" for me that MANY other doctors couldn't solve. Tim Johanson of Metropolitan Pediatric Specialists - they have an office near southdale in Edina and also at St Francis in Shakopee. He is AWESOME. He's been my kids dr for 8 years.

I did have a friend whose child had chronic strep and they ended up taking his tonsils out right around 18 months I think - it solved the problem.
