Christmas Presents
ok my request is off the parenting thing but i am really stumped and i know everyone has an idea for me. i have no idea what to get my mother for christmas. here is a little about her. she doesn't go to the beauty parlor and she won't let any one touch her hands or feet. she 's not into massages and doesn't want strangers in her home. she is 73 and still works full time so any thing she wants or needs she goes and gets. she still drives and goes everywhere. so if anyone has any ideas i would appreciate any ideas.
So What Happened?™
wow- i wasn't expecting so many neat ideas!! so i think i'll go with a gift card for gas!! and my husband loves taking cars to the car wash and cleaning them all up-in fact my son loves to help too. so i think i do up some coupons for her to turn in for a free card wash and cleaning!! she and i spend alot of time together so this will do. thank-you everyone with all the ideas and i hope someone else can use some of those ideas too!!!!

Why not give her "the gift of charity"?
I've given gift certificates from this organization to my dad and mom for a couple years now and they LOVE it!

She sounds like one busy lady! You didn't mention if she has any hobbies or other interests, but it might be nice to get 2 tickets to a performance (theatre, music) and go with her. If she's got an artistic hobby, you could sign up for a class together (provided you live close enough!). My mom is tough to shop for too, so really any gift that allows us to spend time together is always a special gift for both of us.

K. L,
Every year there is usually someone on my list who is real difficult to buy for. Last year I called We Energies and paid a certain denomination towards my receiver’s bill. The Gas and Electric Company will print up a festive gift certificate letter. This year I am going to do the same, but with the newspaper delivery.
One year my Uncles and Aunts all pitched in and paid for one year of living expenses for my Grandparents. Such as Telecable, their phone bill, Gas & Electric, Rent, etc... It was such a memorable and thoughtful gift; expensive, but there was a lot of hands going in on it.
Best of Luck.
P.S
Everyone eats food and it is needed 365 days of the year, so anything to do with food- certificates, homemade products, or food baskets, …anything you name it….
Seems to me like a well-needed gift.

I think the best idea for a mom/grandma who has everything is a gift of time. You can print some cards out here or create your own:

Kelli,
I have a Mother and a Grandmother that are both impossable to shop for for the same reasons! Some ideas that my family has come up with include: a patchwork quilt with family photos iron transfered onto some of the patches, a small step-stool from a craft store and painted it, then took the kids and put their hand and foot prints on it, donations or sposorships (child or tree?). There are millions of things that you can do with photos (my family likes bare walls...ugh!)there are photo tapestries and blankets that you can get, light cubes with photos, etc. So many others have posted great ideas on here that I just may have to borrow a couple too!
Best of luck and Happy Holidays!!!

Hi K.:
I was in the same position a few years ago for my grandmother. A friend suggested giving her a memory book. A memory book is a journal type book which you fill with precious memories about your loved one. I wrote about my cherished memories of things I did with my grandmother growing up and at the end I wrote about all the things I hoped to do with her in the future with check boxes next to them.
The second part of the gift was a journal/scrapbook that she could fill out for me. It had different sections for childhood and adulthood. Some examples of questions were: How you met your spouse (my grandfather)? It included a section for a wedding photo. Favorite memory growing up. Friends growing up. Favorite hobby. Basic memories from her childhood. For her adult life it focused on first job, favorite job, the birth of children, memories of her children (especially memories of my father growing up). Each question had an area for her to write a response and place pictures.
My grandmother loved the gift and still cherishes it. As the years have passed I have added to the book I gave her with memories and pictures and I have a great book full of her experiences that I can share with my family for the future.

Hi K.,
How about the gift of time. Give her a coupon for a day out. Just K. and mom. Go out to eat, shopping, to the movie...visiting a family friend. Anything she likes to do. I know that my mother is 83 and the thing she likes best is spending time with us.
Hope that helps,
R.

Hey K.!
How about a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant or to the movies? Also, if there is a store she shops at? Another thing you can do is to make a photo collage or a calendar with pictures of your son and family pictures your mom may be in. I know Walgreens does these and the CVS Store. Good luck and best wishes with whatever you decide to get her. I hope this helps you! Good luck and take care,
C.
