Christmas Ideas - Manhattan, KS
I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas for some toys for an 8 month old boy for Christmas. I Need to buy my nephew something and I'm not sure what is considered a really good gift. I would like to get something fun and educational. He is not walking. Just started crawling. Thank you ahead of time for your input!!
So What Happened?™
I bought the Leapfrog table and a play bath set. Thank you all for your input. Great ideas!!!! From the pics, it looks like he loves his presents. Happy Holidays!!

Board books are good for kids at this age. I bought my daughter a set of these great rubber stacking blocks and she loved them (from Target, I think). They were large and easy for her to pick up, and she loved to chew on them. Now that she's a year old, she's starting to stack with them as well - a good, classic toy. If you're looking for something he might play with over the next year, a shape sorter or stacking cups might be appropriate. For my daughters first birthday, I bought her the Peek-a-blocks musical shape sorter. She loves it and still plays with it everyday. I got it at ToysRUs for less than $20. If you're looking to buy something a little bigger, he's almost big enough for a push toy or ride on toy. Also a big soft stuffed animal is always a hit. Have fun and good luck!

Hi M.,
I think kids like things they can't have like a telephone or tv remote! I know they have these in kids toys so maybe something like that. Also, I don't think you can go wrong with a ball--sounds kind of simple but if he just started crawling he would probably go after it. At this age they are usually more impressed with the box and wrapping paper than the gift itself! Good luck and have a great Christmas.

LeapFrog, LeapFrog!!! especially the learning table at this age. not only will it help him start to pullup, and stand on his own, its also very educational, and has bright colors to hold their attention!

Something that rolls - so he can crawl and chase it or a toy table with things he can play with on it (I forget the technical term) could encourage him to pull up and stand.

Aaaaaaah you are in the same position I am in with my first Grandson...you children are all grown so it has been a LONG time since you have thought about baby gifts!!! My Grandson absolutely ADORES the wooden rhythm instrument set that I got him at Toys R Us!!! It was about $20...I dont know if that is in your price range or not. It has a wooden "shakey egg" with something in it that makes noise when he shakes it, a "bongo" that he can beat on...and several other things....his Mother has thanked me for giving her a few precious moments to herself as he entertains himself with it. I think at this age anything that "reacts" when he manipulates is is interesting to them...they seem to like the "cause and effect" issues.
Most of all just love that little one...enjoy him!!!

Books are always a winner. They have lots of soft ones and ones for the tub.

Seriously, books are an excellent choice. This could then become a tradition for you to give! All of the children in my family appreciate books & magazines, with gift cards to Barnes & Noble always high on their lists (they're all teen-21 now!)
And, most early-childhood educators agree: it's never too early for children to be held & read to!

They have a toy that he can use to learn to walk. But it really doesn't matter what you get him, at 8 months old they prefer to play with the box instead, hehehehe!!!!!
