Christmas Gifts for My Parents?

My siblings and their spouses all want to go in on gifts for my parents this year and we are looking for gift ideas.

My parents can afford to just purchase whatever they want, when they want to. They enjoy booking their own travel arrangements and are both still working.

Last year we got them nooks and those were a huge hit. The year before that ipods; another huge hit.

What is everyone else getting their parents/the grandparents?

What can I do next?

I would vote theatre/concert tickets. Something they'd probably love but wouldn't think to buy themselves....

In my husbands family, all 4 siblings go in together and we get them "experience" gifts.

Nice restaurant gift certificates.
Guthrie Theater tickets.
Concert tickets.

Last year we got them cooking classes at a local cooking school.

We've been doing it for several years, and it's way easier than finding "stuff" to get them. Also easier to coordinate with 4 kids.

Photo throw-blanket from Wal-mart (altho, I'm sure someone else does them). We've had two made so far and they're really nice. My only suggestion is not to use too many photos; if there are too many some are printed too small to really see the details.

Recipients have loved them! Both are Grandmas, by the way!!

Good luck!

Every year I make a photo book or a calendar. They are always the big hits of the year!

One thing that I have heard is a big hit is the Ceiva. It's a digital picture frame that you and your siblings can send pictures to. It's connected to the internet, and then anyone can send pictures. It updates every morning. That way your parents can always have the latest pictures of their family!

Digital photo album. These days, they have ones that can take a favourite group of songs, put them on repeat, and do a slideshow with pictures of the family "Hammin' it up" and the theme, " La vita è bella".

Both my parents have them, with 1 gig memory cards(holds a TON of pictures), and frequently updated pics(as often as I visit).

You can get pictures of the family when you guys were growing up, scan them into digital format, and use the PC to move them onto the card. Then take pictures of the grandkids and put them into the album. If anyone knows PhotoShop or PhotoElements, you can resize them all into a standard format so the frame doesn't have to try and auto resize them. Burn them to a DVD for backup copies. As you guys visit, anyone with a laptop and a card reader can update the photo frame with current pictures.

Hope this helps.

The grandparents usually get an ornament from hallmark or framed pictures. For my dad I include some kind of sweets and my mom a gift card cause she helps me so much. This year my kids and I are also going to a paint your own pottery place to make a plate or something for them.

I think the best gifts for grandparents who either have everything they need or can afford to get it, are memories. There are a TON of websites out there that make photo albums from your photos; or you can have prints made into 20" x 16" canvas hangings; or if you are "crafty" you could put together a scrap book; or you can have all of their old "slides" and photos put onto a DVD. I did that for my parents and that was a huge hit! Good luck . . .

One year we bought front row seats for Disney on ice for us all and a nice dinner. This year a brunch on a yacht that tours the marina. Do you have anything special in your area you could do together? If not, what about a couples day at a spa or overnight at a cool hotel. I'm always in the same situation with my parents. Oh, I just remembered. One year my sister had a chef come in and teach them juicing and bought a really nice juice machine. That was really fun too. Good luck!!

We've given my MIL a digital photo frame loaded with pics of the kids, a photo book, a Blackberry Playbook, a wine basket, a Sweet Deal overnight hotel package and spa gift certificates and they have all been hits. I haven't a clue what we will get her this Christmas. If I do another photo book I had better get started!

I like the idea of the digital photo frame that the entire family can send pictures to and auto-updates. The whole family can send pics from their computers or their phones directly to the frame. I'm looking at the Pix-Star, but there are a lot of different ones on the market now.
