Help! I cannot come up with any decent Christmas present ideas for my soon to be 5 yr old nephew. He lives in a condo with my sister (pregnant with child #2) and boyfriend, so there's not a lot of extra room for big things. He is really into Spiderman, Incredible Hulk, police/firemen, and typical little boy things. Any ideas would be much appreciated. My sister thinks that getting him the PlaySkool police helmet toy, but I think that's too young for him as it's for 3+.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the great ideas. I ended up getting my nephew a Spiderman Ultimate web blaster, Incredible Hulk transformer and a board game. He seemed thrilled with everything and I really appreciate the advice. It was tough to figure out what to get with so many options out there.

Hi Z., I have a 5yr old boy who will be 6 in February. He is really into Legos! Any kind really, but Star Wars ones are the best! They won't take up much space, either. Other than that, he is into books, matchbox cars, and DVDs (madgascar, cars, etc).
Hope this helps! Good Luck.

My five yr old son loves his Leapster 2. There are tons of fun cartridges for it and they are learning games so even better. He also really likes legos. He will spend hours building with his brothers (about the only activity they do together without fighting the whole time!). He enjoys learning books. He has also asked for Bakugon toys. I don't know if they still make them, but my 5yr nephew loves the Rescue Ranger figures (fireman, policeman, etc.). Hope that give you a couple of ideas.

My 5-year-old loves Lego blocks. Get a tub of pieces that he can just build with rather than a kit for a specific design (the StarWars ships lasted about 3 days, now they just make up their own). If he's never had anything like Lego, go for a slightly bigger style, like Duplo, so that he can figure out the concept with something easier to handle (and keep track of and clean up).

My 5 yr old loves games and puzzles. He also loes to build things; legos, linkin logs, things like that. He also loves crafty/art things. He has a book that teaches him how to make all kinds of creatures and animals by tracing his hand. If they have a computer that they are willingto let him play Fisher Price has some eally awesome educationl computer games. My son has learned #'s, alphabet, colors, shapes, and even some math from these games.

You've gotten great advice. My 5-year-old LOVES action figures, like Batman, and that won't be destroyed by a baby. Our LeapPad is in constant use as well, and you can get Spiderman/Batman books for that. If it's a hit, that sets you up for the next birthday/Christmas when you find him new cartridges.

I have a 5 year old and the things he has on his Christmas list are: The Walle Movie, Legos, Pixos, Webkin, and Martian Matter. All of which would be inexpensive, fun, and take up minimal space. I also love when my kids are given games as gifts. The funnest game ever is Hullabaloo. We have had hours of fun with that game. Our other favorite game is called Zingo, it is a thinkfun game. My 5 year old is also very into art stuff. He loves to draw, color, paint, etc. Also, Walmart has "Hulk Smash Hands" on sale this week for $10. Hope these ideas help.

I would suggest spiderman, hulk, and such coloring books and crayola set.
Put it all in a toe box/ basket to make it portable.
Another good choice is playdough kits.
These keep them busy for hours.
And it is not as messy as long as you set rules.
My #1 rule is no up and down (stay seated)
my kids sit at the island and every little while i go around them and sweep.
Godd luck and god bless

Fisher Price makes Imaginex. They are adorable and my boys age 5 and almost 3 love the castle and the pirate ship. they will be getting the big bat cave for christmas. It was about $35 but the little action figures with it and the contraptions are fun for them and they are so well made that they stand up to boys. We got it a yr. ago and all the friends love them and my boys play with them almost every day.

They have these cool things called Cross over Transformers, that they are super heros like the Hulk, Spiderman and so forth. They are neat. They are new and I just saw them at Target the other day. My son LOVES super heros and Loves transformers. Also lego kits are a huge hit here. I have a four year old son. He loves anything he can use his imagination with, like the Star War action figures, Transformers, Legos, playdough all that stuff. I wouldn't get anything for my son that said 3+ (other then playdough), he is really into being a big boy and likes things his age and I do up to 7 years of age for toys for him as he doesn't put things in his mouth and I see what it is all about first.
There is also that cute new game called Guess Who the electronic version. Or Pictureka. Both of my kids have asked for these games for Christmas.

Big Legos, Moon Sand, golf set (get a good set because the cheap ones only last 1 or 2 times -- like Little Tykes), disposable art stuff (paint, huge color book, etc.), games (like Perfection or Hullabaloo that use color and object skills of which my 8 year old still loves to play), and doodle board (for car).

I don't know what your budget is, but the biggest hit ever with my nephew (he's into transformers) was a game from Discovery Toys called Marble Works. I gave it to him when he was six (he's nine now) and he still tells me he loves it and my bro tells me they play with it on those days when they are 'bored' and it solves the 'bored' issue. They can be very creative and the motion of the marbles is exciting. We still have ours around from when our boys were little and they haul it our once in a while. They are now 15 and 12, respectively. Great toy and it comes with it's own storage box (about the size of two shoe boxes)....Good luck!
