Christmas Duet Song

My daughter just auditioned for a part in our town theatre's Christmas production and got accepted. For her audition, she sang a song and played her guitar and there was another girl there from the same high school that did the same thing. The producers thought it'd be nice for my daughter and this girl to do a duet for the show. My daughter is stronger in her lower range and the other girl is stronger in the higher. They are now trying to come up with which Christmas song they'd like to do that would be easy to do as a duet and has high and low parts. I think their thought is that they could sing some parts of the song together and then each have parts they sing solo on. I'm drawing a blank. Any suggestions?

Updated: Both girls are 15, sorry to leave that out! They will both sing and play guitar. Love the suggestions so far! Keep 'em coming! I'll go over them with my daughter and let you know what they decide. First rehearsal is Monday, so they have to decide by then.

What can I do next?

I have the perfect duet and it is beautiful!!!!
Google Bing Crosby and David Bowie. They sing The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth and it is so pretty! Love, love this one!

Michelle S - you said what I was going to!! I LOVE that version by Crosby/Bowie.

Based on how skilled both girls are, perhaps they could write their own (either new lyrics of an existing song, or something fresh from scratch).

But yes, please do have them consider Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth, esp. since it WAS done as a duet already, they will know how different parts work together already.

Looking forward to the holidays this year... T. =-)

The first two songs that came to mind were Do You Hear What I Hear, and Silent Night, with the Peace on Earth descant. If I can find a good recording of what I'm speaking of I'll private message it to you.

Gesu Bambino

Has gorgeous harmony. I sang it in a ladies group and we had 4 parts going at once and it was gorgeous.

To work out a duet with 2 guitars and their voices singing the words, I can't imagine it not being beautiful.

Not in English but shows some harmony well.

We've sung All Through The Night a couple of times at Christmas too.

Then my all time favorite group Christmas song is When Will The Little King Come by

This shows the rounds and the harmony. Think how beautiful this will be with the girls voices and their guitars. It would be moving.

The music for the song doesn't even start until 2 minutes into the timer. Skip ahead once it loads.

Faster and equal harmony.

Over all they can do a whole host of songs. There are traditional songs we've all heard then the ones that are a little different. I hope they can find one they both love.

Virtually any song has been arranged for multiple singers. I was in choir all through school and we sang pretty much everything.
I would suggest going to the music store and asking them to show you the 2 part harmony carol books to see what you like.
Jingle Bell Rock came to mind as one I love hearing. It would be good as a duet, each one singing a verse solo and the chorus as a duet. There are several verses to it.

Not sure if this is considered a Christmas song, but we had two neighbors about 17 at the time sing "Baby It's Cold Outside". It was awesome! It has the lower and the higher parts, as it's typically sung by a man and woman but it was great with the two girls. Just a thought.

Every single Christmas song has a harmony part - soprano/alto. They could both sing the whole song that way. "Angels we have heard on high" also has a lovely descant for the chorus, which would give the lower voice the melody at that point. You don't say how old the kids are but if one is playing a guitar, they aren't little. It depends on whether the "Christmas production" is using religious songs or more secular winter type songs though. "Silver Bells" is secular and also has a decent range and a chorus that can be sung in harmony or in echo form.
