Christmas Card Wording

I usually send out Christmas cards to friends and family with a pic of the kids in it and sign it from all of us. No big deal usually... but this year we will have a new addition to the family during December. I typically send out the cards right after Thanksgiving, so baby won't (hopefully) be here yet, but will be here by Christmas. How do I sign the card this year? Do I include the new baby in some way (we know we are having a boy and have a name picked out already) or just leave it from the current familly and just send the announcements after he arrives (announcements will go out either way)? If we add him, any suggestions on how to word it? The picture obviously won't include him, just the older kids.

What can I do next?

I wouldn't include the new baby's name, unless the new baby has been born. I'm not superstitious, but to some that might seem like tempting fate. I think it's enough to send out announcements once the baby has been born!

Either send a card signed from your family as it is now or wait and send a New Year's Card.

I personally would not send out a Christmas card with an unborn babies name on it. I think that would be odd and people would assume he was already born but just not in the picture.

When is the baby due? If it is early in December could you just wait till he is born and take a cute family photo and then send out the cards? You could pre-address all the envelopes now to save time so you are all set to go when he is born.

I also think your option of sending the cards out right after Thanksgiving with your current family members is fine. I personally like to send my cards out closer to Christmas though.

I would just sign it "The Mitchell Family" or "S. and Jim Mitchell and Family." Signing an unborn child's name feels very uncomfortable to me.

I would just say generally, From the Smith Family or if you want to list everyone's name, put Baby Smith in his place.

I would either sign it from the "M" family or put only the names of the current family, not including the new baby. You can send announcements after the baby is born to honor him too.

Send them after baby is born, or do a New Years card.

If you do it now then just sign it "and future Smith to be" or "and Baby Smith" but do not use the real name.

I personally would send out "New Year" cards instead and that way you can include the new baby and accomplish two things at once.
