My daughters bday is in June, and my girlfriends daughters bday is in December. She asked me today what she should do for the party. We all know that the first bdays are for family mostly, the little girls bday is December 27, if anyone has any ideas for a theme of any sort, let me know. The summer bday has pool partys and plenty of outside activites we can do, but the winter bday we have no clue; please help on any ideas you may have.

It's a first birthday!!

Thanks J.

My daughter's birthday is December 28th, unexpectedly since she was 14 weeks early! We have decided that her birthday will NOT be tied to Christmas or any winter theme. Her birthday is an important day, totally separate from from any other holiday. Since she was a preemie, her first birthday was an especially important celebration!

As she gets older we will probably have a friend/family party in January after the holidays are over, but for now we will celebrate on her birthday!

As for themes, I went to BirthdayExpress.com and bought a party package. We did the cupcake theme and I had a cake made in the shape of a cupcake! It was girly and fun and didn't have anything to do with the holidays.

Good Luck,
Amanda

Keep it simple for once, just cute.

For a theme Ladybugs are adorable, for example.

Occupy the bigger kids with crafts and games inside. Even a little scavenger hunt inside the house is possible.

We have a December birthday and have been forced to get very creative. My son is only 5, so I only have a few ideas to offer, but they were fun and successful parties (and cheap). One year we organized a hay ride that simply went around the neighborhoods and looked at Christmas lights. We had lots of blankets and a portable radio with sing-a-long music playing. The kids had a blast and after about an hour, they were ready to quit. It was a very simple party with low costs. My second favorite was a Breakfast with Santa party. We happened to have a friend with a Santa suit, so this cut down on the cost, but even without that, the morning party was great. The party started at 9am and all the kids came in their favorite Christmas pajamas. We served donuts and kolaches. The kids made an ornament and a jar of homemade cocoa. We used a small mason jar with a piece of cloth they decorated as the topper. Recipes are online. Hope this helps. A. v.

My 11 year old is in December. It is difficult to get my family together so we would have her b-day party at Thanksgiving so that the present thing wouldn't be diluted by Christmas( I am also December and I know what that feels like year after year). We have also done it as New Year's Eve. I had the party with all the kids and the parents went out. So basically I was the free babysitter. Some picked up late and some slept over. My youngest is September. This year they are having their party together in early November at a hotel because they want a pool party together. I don't know any other way to do it. I don't have a pool and the municiple ones close once school starts. We had a nutcracker them party once. Most of the kids came in princess, prince, or rat costumes. It went with the Christmas decor. I used the Church gym once and just let the kids make their own fun for 2 hours. I thought it was lame but the kids said it was great. Maybe they just want free time with no rules once in a while. I think winter is always good with a fireplace, indoors or out for roasting marshmellows. You could make a hay ride to look at Christmas light with hot chocolate. Or the kids could go carroling(sp).
Good luck,

Hi J.-

I'm not sure how much your friend wants to spend on the party, but she could do a "Winter Wonderland" theme and rent a snow machine for the party.

The Woodlands has the ice skating rink and also the winter wonderland light display near the mall around the holidays.

If the birthday girl is into dress up, a princess tea party is always a hit. If you or another mom is "theatrical" it would be easy to pick up an adult sized Cinderella or other princess costume this time of year and you could come to the tea party in costume.

Good Luck,
K.

Have a rain deer race. You take a wooden dowel and make a base for it to stick into and then make a cardboard head. We purchased from the dollar store some large fabric dice that hang from a rear view mirror in a car and cut off the string. If it is not to cold outside you can do this in the drive way and use chock to mark lines every 12". Have as many deer as you want. We have done it with 4 at a time or you could form 2 lines and see which line ends first. Anyway, each child will throw only 1 dice and move accordingly to the number. We have even done this where the adults take bids on which deer comes in first. It is so funny. And the kids can do this over and over.
My birthday is also in December a week before Christmas.

For a first birthday, be sure to make it at a time when her daughter won't be tired/sleepy and not during her naptime, of course. We did ours as a breakfast for my son, and everyone loved it. We thought it would be very small, since it was early (10 a.m.), but nearly everyone showed up and the place was full. The area where my son stayed was a smaller area; so, he didn't get overwhelmed with the noise. Everyone else was in another area with the kids playing. (This was at Tumbleweeds 4 years ago.) Anyway, everyone had a great time. It was privately rented; so, only our kids were there. And the facility had employees that helped and made sure none of the kids left. It made socializing with family/friends very relaxing, and the kids enjoyed their play time.

If she doesn't want to go with the usual character themes, then what about a seasonal theme (Winter Wonderland), where there could be activities and decorations that the kids would like and relate to. One activity could include something like decorating your own snowman cupcake. Give the kids a cupcake and plate with a little bit of frosting to frost the cupcake with. On the plate, also have some different candies to make a nose (candy corn), eyes (M&Ms), mouth (string licorice), ear muffs (gum drops and string licorice). Skip the candy for the birthday child's and just let her eat the cupcake. :)

If you want some more ideas, let me know. I don't want to take up your whole screen. lol Best wishes to you!

My birthday is Dec 22. My parents always had my parties at the beginning or middle of December because so many people go away from the 22-the 6th of January. This year, if it is the first Birthday (I was a bit confused about her age) and they are just inviting close friends and family, they can do either a Christmas party or New Years party (being responsible with alcohol and children of course). If it is not her first Birthday, or if they want it just to be a Birthday party...I would just find the theme of her favorite stuffed animal or television show. My son's first was Elmo, and my Daughter's was Winnie the Pooh. Good luck and have fun!

This is a birthday, for a little girl. Not Christmas or New Year's. Have a birthday party. It will be hard when she is older do not make it hard now. Little girls love to dress up. Make it one. They will love it. Little sandwiches, cookies etc. just like a tea party. Make a cake that is a princess cake for your little princess. There are a lot of party things out there for a princess party. They are easy and the girls will love it.

Honestly, I think children with christmas birthdays shouldn't be tied to a winter theme... That's just another limitation on their birthday. They already have to compete with the holidays, people being out of town, etc... Let the child have any theme that appeals to them; who cares if it is in December.... mermaids, barbie parties, babydoll parties, ballet, cowgirl, etc.

My daughter's birthday is December 28th, so I know all about the holiday birthday. She will be 3 this year and basically, I'm going to wait until the first or second weekend in January to have her parties so that everyone is back in town and back to school. Living in Texas, usually it isn't that cold outside (although it can be), so she could still have some play outside if it was done during the day. I plan on having a bounce house in the back yard this year if the weather cooperates. I don't think it necessarily has to be indoors. But, you could always have it at a bounce place or the Little Gym, Gymboree, etc. These are all indoor facilities that the kids love. My daughter is already saying she wants a princess party this year, so as for theme, she can always recruit her child to help pick it!

I am assuming that she is one. I am a January baby along with my son. He will be turning one and we are planning a " cowboy " party here at the house. I suggest a theme this year. But for future events she could do those inflatable bounce buildings or gyms that are kid friendly and have partys there, skating, indoor mini golf..if avalible, bowling, lazor tag, tea partys, runway dress up fashion shows, and slumber parties. We always liked a scavanger hunt. Sometimes mom would make a treasure hunt with clues around the house. There are lots of indoor activities and games ...twister, pin the tail, those little fishing games where you throw your line over and get a prize cliped to the end of it. Think carnival. Good luck mommas have lots of good ideas on this site for parties.

A friend of mine does half birthdays and does them during the summer when her child is 18 months, 30 months, ect. It is a lot of fun and you get to spread the gifts out throughout the year instead of all on the same month. As for a December birthday, a jumping party is good for all seasons.

Good luck!

I have an indoor playroom/ Party room (Party Station) in Schertz. The website is www.mypartystation.com. All the parties scheduled are private parties. There are some pictures on the website. I would love for you to come out and visit us. The actual place is much nicer than the website pictures. I have added on, bought new stuff and had a lot of paintings done on the walls.
Good Luck
