Does anyone know of a good Christian Church in Sarasota? We are new to the area and went to a church last Sunday that was not at all what it seemed from the website. My 3 yr old needs to enjoy church at her age being expected to sit quietly through a long drawn out service, is not what we bargained for. To be honest, I also am not comfortable with I guess what some may call Charismatic Worship.

What can I do next?

I recently joined Pine Shores Presbyterian and am really enjoying it. They have Sunday School for 3 year olds at 8:30, a traditional service at 9:45, and a contemporary service at 10:15. My 3 year old just started this past week to go into the service with me until the children's sermon - and then he goes into nursery. He really enjoyed it and being able to go into nursery made the service the perfect length for him. He and my 1 year old both have been going into the nursery for about 3 months and enjoy it and the caregivers. The contemporary service is much more informal and kids usually stay with their parents the whole time. The web site is www.pineshorespres.org. Best of luck finding a church home.

Hello,

Have you tried Woodland Baptist Church? it is not exactly in Sarasota, but it's pretty darn close enough if you ask me. it's on S.R. 70 by the interstate. www.woodlandministries.com I'm not sure what religion you are, but do not let the denomination fool you. my family and I have been attending off and on for about 5 years now, and they are by no means strict baptist, but more of a nondenominational baptist (does that makes sense?) Pastor Tim is a wonderful pastor, and the church provides an awesome child care/nursery etc. where they have their own kid friendly "church" so to speak in their classes. I believe you would feel very comfortable in this church.

good luck with finding a church that meets your needs

We like Church of the Palms on Bee Ridge in Sarasota. They have a great children's program there. They have a contemporary service that the kids can sit through for about 20 to 30 minutes and it is a lot of nice music and singing on stage and the kids can talk through it or walk around a little, and the music is loud enough that any behavior really doesn't disrupt and no one seems to mind. From there they start the sermon so it quiets down a little and usually you can bring your child to childcare if you'd like at that time - Sunday School.

Another place we visit is Harvest United Methodist Church - which is right on University Parkway, actually Lakewood Ranch. They have a contemporary service too and they are very accepting of children there and not expecting them to sit through long drawn out services. They have Sunday School too with crafts and great childcare.

Keep searching - I am sure you will find something!

Hello A.!
We have attended Abundant Life Church for about 7 years and it is a great church! It is a very welcoming and accepting church family. The music is wonderful and the sermons are inspiring. There is a childrens church during the service for ages 3 and up so your daughter will enjoy the fun worship and activities they have for kids! They have two services, one at 9:00 and one at 10:30. It is located at 6461 Proctor Rd. If you want to check out the website it is www.abundantlife-sarasota.com. Hope to see you there!
