Choosing a Pediatrician

Hello. I am looking for a pediatrician. I've met with doctors at two different medical centers and I am not sure which one to choose. I visited the office on 175th and LaGrange. I also visited an office in Flossmoor on Governors HWY, inside Ingalls. I was wondering if anyone goes to either of these offices, and what you'd recommend. The office on 175th/La Grange is conveniently located whereas the other office is about a 20 minute drive.

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

I am seconding the option of the Child Life Center in Flossmoor. Dr. Dorsey is the best! I've also seen the other docs there and it is a great place to take a sick baby. They even have two sides in the waiting room, one for sick kids and one for well kids. Best of luck in whomever you choose!

M.,
I know it is so hard to find a Dr that is just right, especially for the first time. I am curious if the Dr on Governors highway is the same one I use. Is it the Child LIfe Center? If it is I LOVE these doctors. I have my favorite of cource but we have seen each one and they are all wonderful. I can always get an appointment when needed. We also have to travel about 25 minutes to see them but I would travel that far for myself, so why not for my children? When the point of emergency care comes up I would deffinitely go to the closest hospital but have always followed up with them. Good luck and Congrats!

Hi M.,
My pediatrician is Dr. Pandya. He is located in Tinley Park on 171st and Harlem (office is located just north of 171st street on Harlem Ave). He accepts ALL insurances. He is a great doctor. My cousin is a labor and delivery nurse and she takes her own child there and has been going to him for 13 years. I was always told to trust a nurse, because they know the doctor's best!
I have nothing but good things to say about this man. If your baby is sick, he will see him right away or sometime that day. Doesn't matter how busy he is or how booked up he is, he will squeeze you in. Here is his number ###-###-####. Good luck!

I drive all the way to Oak Brook for a pediatrician I like. A 20 minute drive isn't bad if you prefer the physician. Who are the doctors at 175th & LaGrange? I used to take my first son to a practice near there and was very displeased, which is what led me to my current ped.

Hi M.,

If you like a ped that has a great bed side manner and has over 20? years of experience. My daughter's ped is great. I have recommend him to another mom on mamasource and she said he was great too. Dr. Lawrence Dorsey is in the Ingalls building on Governor hwy right off of Kedzie. 708/799-7600. You will love himm. He meets parents after 4pm on certain days. I believe you have to ask for the office manager and she'll set up an appointment for you.

I don't know what groups you met with but my children go to Southwest Peds. They have two offices, one at 191st and LaGrange and the other in Palos. They are open 6 days a week. They have a wonderful staff, minus the poor bedside manner of Dr. Harris.

My children LOVE Dr. Carreon and Dr. Despande. We have been going there since my daughter was born and she is 6.

The Mokena office number is ###-###-####. Since it is close you might want to pop in for a quick interview.

Hope this helps. Good luck!!

If you are talking about Pronger Smith, I highly recommend Dr. Sylvia Irizarry (I think that's how you spell her name). That is my son's doctor....she's great! Sometime's she runs late b/c she spends so much time w/each child, so if you do see her, I would recommend getting the first appointment! The other doctors are good, but sometimes hard to understand with heavy accents. I met with all of them and I loved Irizarry, and so does my son!

Hello,

I have been going to Child Life Center (Flossmoor on Governors HWY, inside Ingalls)for 3 years now. I love it there. I personally go to Dr. Mark Roome. I have friends and family that see the other doctors in the practice and have no complaints. I definitely recommend them. They are affiliated with University of Chicago/Childrens. They are also with South Suburban as well. I am not sure what other hospitals, but I know when I had my second child both Dr. Roome and Dr. Selig checked him over. I have never been unhappy there. The nurses and receptionist are very helpful. I have 2 boys. My oldest will be 4 soon and my youngest just turned 1 at the end of December. I started going there when my oldest turned 1.

Sorry for rambling. Hope this helps.
