Hey Moms,
My daughter has been starting to gag or some may call choke, and then seems to lose her breath. Then a few seconds later will start breathing again. Almost as if her breath was taken. It scares me everytime. Have any of you dealt with this? Thanks for all the help.

What can I do next?

She may be suffering from Acid Reflux. My daughter would do the same thing and she would actually turn dusky blue. We had to call the life squad about 2am because of these episdoes. She was choking on her acid reflux.

I agree with Shannon on this one. My daughter went through the same thing and she was finally seen by a few ENT after many trips in the ambulance for stopping breathing. She has a condition that is called laryngomalacia. They out grow it by 18 months in most cases but my daughter whom is 9 still has it. Her doctor just re looked at it on the 17th to see how it was. Here is a few website that has information about it but CALL your Doctor ASAP and request that she be seen by an ent!

I would definately call the doctor. My daughter did this as an infant and it was reflux. She was choking. Alot of her reflux vomit didn't come out of her mouth, it would just come as far as the throat and literally choke her. She was put on medicine and extremely thickened formula to help her. It did somewhat, but she still choked to the point we had to use the nose plunger thing to clear it. She is 7 now and much better but is still skittish of going under water. The peditrician thinks it is because of all the time she choked as an infant. Raising a newborn is the scariest but most rewarding thing you do. Always go with your instinct and call the doctor when your gut tells you to. Better to be safe and have peace of mind.

Does she do this while awake or sleeping? My youngest did this while she was asleep, and we found out she had sleep apnea, which can be life threatening. She was on an apnea monitor for about 6 months. Check with the Dr. and maybe have her have a pneumogram. It is a test to measure breathing in infants.
